Relatedly, I don't understand why municipalities are so repeatedly so willing to give owners hundreds of millions of dollars towards building stadiums.  It just boggles my mind.

Because no politician wants to be known as the person who let *insert beloved local pro sports team* leave town.

And most sports are willing to subsidize *cityname teamnoun* when it shows up on ballots.

Stuff like the Atlanta Braves pulled is awful, though.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Let me serve as the opening voice of ego-centrism for CB here please.

The celtics have multiple draft picks of the nets. As was discussed in great detail on multiple threads after the pierce/KG trade to Brooklyn, about the only way the nets could hope to field a credible team 2+ years from now is to simply take a massive pounding on taxes, overpay on salaries, overpay for free agents and simply not care about money.

Prokhorov is just that sort of owner. My concern was that he would spend the nets to relevance for the next few years.

But, if prokhoeov sells the nets, will the incoming owner follow the "watch me outspend drunken sailors" model  of the nets current owner? My hope, nay my fantasy, is that the incoming new owner would be a tightwad and doom the nets to a decade of excruciatingly bad basketball, and, the celtics' will get a series of fabulous draft picks.

It is good to dream.
was thinking the same thing when I saw the title.

Selling may allow him to duck his vow to get married if they don't win a championship within 5 years. Not having to get married, plus $2B . . .he's out!

Shall we take up a collection?
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

The sanctions and whatnot could possibly affect the owner, but I don't think it affects the NBA. Pretty sure they'd do business in North Korea or Nazi Germany if they thought they could make a buck from it.

This is actually pretty huge news.

And so begins the downward spiral for the Brooklyn Nets.

Come on, for once, let the Celtics get lucky with all these picks. Like draft 4 all pro players. One can dream.....

Phenomenal news for the celtics. Although no matter who the gm is, the nets will be in a downward spiral for AT LEAST the next 2 years. Next year we should have 2 lottery picks if you include our own.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

so they in turn need an owner/group who will:
keep the core and overspend to add quality players to the team so they can win a championship

or more than likely, move whatever injured overpaid pieces they can and for the next 3-4 seasons (at best for them) truly stink and rebuild from that point

ohh its good to be green  ;D

Still one of my favorite videos ever:

"If all goes according to plan, I expect championship in 1 year minimum... 5 year maximum"

... all did not go according to plan.

What if all of our Nets picks were all top 2 on a Cavs-like run and we select a player for each one (keep them) and they all bust or are blah players... would you

a)curse and cuss DA
b) send threatening letters to DA
c) do something to be banned from CB
d)say Nets are cursed and it's their fault
e) all of the above

DA said all picks are tradeable until you pick the player.
