also if he goes to Houston that's another bad fit. no pg still and I have a hard time believing harden can play with another ball hog.

but then again carmello has already proven he's not that bright.

Harden played pretty well with Westbrook and Durant.

Why would Carmelo or ANYONE gamble their Championship Dreams on Derrick Rose's knees---?

no way....I think this entire thing might already be set...C's trade for Love on Draft night...Asik/Lin are dealt to Boston...Carmelo signs in Houston.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

How are we getting Asik and Lin in addition to Love? Assuming contract fillers go out to Minny for Love and we use the TPE for Asik (personally, I'd prefer to use it on a sign & trade for Gortat), how are we getting Lin without sending back salary which would defeat the purpose for Houston?

Sorry but that makes little to no sense

Yea, coming off the bench

What does that have to do with the fact that he played very well alongside them? So he started the game in the bench, he also finished all those games.

People love to call him a ballhog and say he couldn't play with another elite, ball dominant scorer. He's already played and made it to the finals with 2 of them.

Eh, I kinda get where people are coming from with the whole "Melo and Harden wouldn't work" angle.  The difference between OKC Harden and Houston Harden is that in OKC, Harden was the clear third option.  He played a role, he knew where he stood on the totem pole, and he was willing to accept that.  He's gone from playing on Durant and Westbrook's team to having his own team.  Definitely going to be a lot harder to adjust to playing with another ball-dominant star.

Your point?

He finished all those games... He was in when it really mattered in crunch time.

Manu comes off the bench too.

I think he'd fit more naturally in Chicago than Houston and hopefully it is the Bulls that get him. That would take them out of the Love competition and Houston doesn't have the assets to Love without Parsons cooperation.  So yeah, Melo to the Bulls please.

That's a good point. Didn't really think of that tbh.

Loves situation will likely be handled by draft time and Melos a week or two later.

Knicks one game last season were winning by 10 with a minute to go.  The coach calls a timeout to discuss a play and melo gets annoyed by this.    What kind of coach is going to want to deal with someone like this?

I honestly think that one of the biggest reasons for the Celtics to avoid Carmelo Anthony is that I don't think he will be receptive to being coached by a relatively young white guy without an extensive resume in the NBA as a player and/or coach.
Maybe, but I've read from several non-Celtic-related writers that Stevens was perceived to have done a really good job in Boston within the NBA and as a result more teams are actively looking at college coaches.  The anti-Pitino. Apparently wears well with players too.

OTOH, some of the teams looking in the college ranks were likely being shut out of prime, NBA experienced candidates (Cavs and TYWolves for instance).
The Anti-Pitino....

I like that.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Melo and Howard are actually good friends off the court

That means jack poo on the ball court where they are trying to earn their livelihood.  Both are going to still want to be the man.

I think this could turn out to be case.....unless a Phil Jackson presence is over seeing the team.

Howard hated the Lakers not going to him ,  ignoring him on offense , catering to Kobe.....this issue could repeat adding Melo to the mix ....I mean Hardin really needs to be scoring and shooting a ton himself ...... I can see where a log jam of who gets the ball could happen .

Okay, seriously, why all the love for Asik?  Yes, he's tall and a good 'rim protector' going by the statistics, I'm assuming, but he has no offensive talent, is a terrible free throw shooter, and isn't a passer.  If you're going to be inept offensively but special defensively, you had better be a pretty good to great passer, imho, so that you don't end up like Perk.

As far as Carmelo, I'd love to see him go to Chicago (anywhere but Boston, really.) just for the entertainment value, alone.  Imagine Thibs trying to get Melo to play defense haha.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I still think Chicago is his best option. Rose's knee went out again, but if he comes back at 75% of his former self they'll still be a monstrous team in a weak Eastern conference with Noah, Rose and Melo.
Rose will still be able to get to the hole and dish to Melo. They'll be able to put Butler on elite wings and let Melo guard the weaker of their PF/SF opponents. Meanwhile Noah will be waiting at the rim as the last man standing. A line up of:

Rose
Butler
Melo
Gibson
Noah

Is pretty tough to match.
I've seen Bulls fans get really creative speculating that if Melo is willing to take a pay cut they could go after Kyle Lowry as Rose insurance.
I believe if they've invested all those millions and years into a Rose/Noah core, then they need to make the most of it. Yeah Rose might be limited, but it's unlikely that he's cooked.

Houston is far far away from being a serious contender. They need a culture change and a defensive minded coach and in the West they're not looking at fun times ahead.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Who would play defense for us besides Asik?  He can't guard 5 guys.  This team would have no hope of getting past the first round.  Then buh bay to Rondo and Love as FA's.  Pass.
