I 'd would not mind to get the 29th and PJ3 but the only way it makes sense if we amnesty Perk.  He is beyond bad now.

You can't trade for a player and then amnesty him.

This isn't about trading for Perkins. It's about converting the TPE before its expiration date to an expiring contract, and recouping additional assets from OKC for the trouble, if no other option presents itself.

Perk is done, even for a second rounders i won't take him. The tpe will be used for Monroe or Asik, not someone else.

What if it isn't?

I would agree with the original premise of the OP: as a last option, I would hope that Ainge would use the TPE on Perk rather than let it expire. I would hope that OKC would include something else in the deal (draft picks, prospects) for taking Perk's contract off their hands.

Perk's contract could then be used later as salary filler in another deal. The TPE can't do that, especially after it evaporates in mid-July. Ainge would just be rolling it over, buying some time.

Since you can't send something for nothing, if the deal is Perkins for a future second-round pick using the TPE to match salary, I'd rather keep the pick.  I'd be okay with Perkins for Chris Babb so long as it didn't mean that doing a few trades and using the full MLE would take the Celtics into tax territory.

That's what those top-55 protected picks from Sacramento are for.  We can send one of those as the future second round pick.

Still no reason to take on his contract if there's nothing else coming this way.

Boston could send either of the top-55 2nd rounders from Sacramento (2015 and 2017).

Tax status is a consideration, if only because it results in a little less flexibility in trades. I imagine that Ainge could figure out a way to stay below the LT threshold for a second year in a row, and still make moves to improve the roster.

Then basketball wise if we keep Perk = we are tanking next year.

I think if Ainge doesn't use the TPE at all, it means that there will be another long season next year.

I can think of better ways than Perk.  Do you realize Olynyk had better production in everything but blocks last season?   Oly shot better, scored more and out rebounded Perk last year.  Perk is still a better defender but I would almost rather roll with Olynyk.

Why on earth do we want someone like Perk?  The man is done.  Let it go.

If is about getting an asset, is the suggestion that we would get Perk and maybe a future pick?

I don't see just taking Perk back as an asset,  I guess I don't buy into the theory that and expiring contract is an asset by itself that would be worth taking on.

We could do Perkins and Perry Jones for Bogans, Johnson, Pressey, Babb.   I dont think Lamb woud work out salary-wise.

If We dont need Bogans to go after a better player like DeAndre Jordan, we could at least do this trade and get a free look at Perry Jones.  Who knows, Jones could be the next Jeff Green.

seems like a sensible thing to me trade the TPE for Perk and a future protected pick. If Rondo is sticking around he will be happy to have perk back. If not at least he is a team orientated tough defensive big who will help the development of Sully and KO. This could help OKC clear some money to go after Gasol.

I would rather let it expire.
