I haven't seen him play, save for a couple of YouTube clips, but I love his competitive fire.  His size and skill, coupled with his intensity, is somewhat reminiscent of Russell Westbrook - except that this guy can and will pass.  He might not be as athletic, but in his defense, few players can compare to the OKC guard in that respect. 

Anyway, it's very likely that I'll be wrong about this comparison, so I was wondering - to whom would you compare Smart?  Go.

Also, I'm sure that this is getting annoying (if it hasn't already), but if anyone reading and/or commenting on this thread hasn't visited one entitled Calling All Music Lovers, http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=70754.0, I'd encourage you to do so.  Wait until you hear her sing!

In order to truly compare Marcus Smart you should look at:Deron Williams, Dwayne Wade, cp3,

I love going on draft express and looking at these players stats and heights and measurements

By the way. Marcus Smart has a problem with bringing the ball down before he shoots. Once he clears that up he will be a great pg. I say great pg only because he is a great defender already.

Actually marcus Smart has a better vertical at the same stage and much heavier!

Finally, a lengthy video that isn't 100% makes. TP for that.

I think Smart's shot obviously needs work but he makes up for it by scoring in other ways, post ups and driving to the hoop being the most obvious. I'd pick him over Gordon because while Gordon is the better defender, I do believe Smart will be the better complete player as his competes defensively and can score, while Gordon is all defense and athleticism right now.

A bigger Gary Payton. Just like Payton, not the greatest playmaker, not the greatest shooter, but he attacks the rim, plays with fire, and is an excellent defender.

That's the potential I see in him.

He's had that same, awful, hitch in his shot for at least two straight seasons and shown no sign of doing anything about it (despite many scouts and analysts pointing it out so I doubt he's not aware of it).

i do agree somewhat with the Russell Westbrook comparison, but that's also another player I am not fond of.

If Danny picks Smart, I hope it's just to trade him.  I suppose I could talk myself into liking him as a Celtic more with hypnosis and counseling sessions.  He is a very good defender.  And if he gets treated well by the referees in the NBA, he's capable of bulling his way to the hoop as well as anyone.   He's still a good player, but I'm just not keen on picking him.

If we pick Smart, to me, that implies that we have to trade Rondo.   I don't see any future for Smart as a shooting guard unless he's with a great shooting PG like Curry.   A Rondo+Smart back court would have horrible spacing since defenses would just pack in the paint.

He could come out anywhere between Tony Allen and Dwyane Wade, depending on how his first step and jump shot translate to the NBA level.

Guys, look: The greatest shooters of all time have a dip on their shots. Just watch. All of them do. A dip is ideal.

However, the problem is that Smart's dip is excessive and it's too far away from his body, meaning he doesn't get any momentum when he dips the ball. On top of that, his footwork is a mess. He's highly inconsistent and establishes his base different on nearly every jump shot he takes.

There's a lot of great stuff here, guys.  I've seen that nbadraft.net has Smart compared to Wade, and draftexpress is always excellent, especially, background music aside, their scouting videos.  I'm not sure how well he would, if he even could, work with Rondo, but he's already head and shoulders above Bradley.  He'd also likely be the bpa.  I admit, I'm not a fan of Westbrook, but I do like his attacking style.  I didn't think of Deron Williams or CP3 because those guys were way better shooters, less athletic, and better playmakers coming out of college than Smart is right now.  Would that be fair to say?

I think he will have to change the dip in his shot because in the nba he will have a harder time getting the shot off. His ft percentage freshman year was 77% and this year was low 70s , he went to the line 8 times a game. So when I look at his free throws I do get hopeful that he can get better shooting.

Also, I agree is we get smart Rondo will be traded. Smart is not a 2 guard

I think Smart is a pg. So i do not agree with the Waiters comparison....does not mean it can't be true, but thats my view. He also is a good passer, averaged 5 assists this year.
