That's good.  I was expecting him to say he's been watching tv and eating pizza all off season.

Oddly enough,  he needs to go through the transformation Kevin Love did with his body.

He has his 1st full off-season and a promised return to his best suited position.

The extra weight he carried was almost a necessity to consistently bang around with 280+ pound behemoths. Those pounds helped protect him from a devastating injury, as a player recovering from a debilitating back injury/surgery. He voluntarily attended last season's Summer League despite being in rehabilitation, is quoted as wanting to participate in this upcoming summer league, and is reported as constantly being at the Celtics' facility. This kid is a basketball fiend and will be one of those players that improve from year to year.

He's going to shed at least 20 pounds during the off-season and still be one of the strongest PFs at 22. He was one of the best offensive rebounders in the league despite having to battle the biggest, strongest players from opposing teams.

I can see Sully averaging 15-10 or 18-9 (if he's shooting at league average 3P%).

Deja vu all over again

True, but to be fair, he spent a lot of time on the couch recuperating from back surgery.
So did Gronk, remember how he looked when he came back?

Quote
"That's part of the whole rehab process," Gronkowski said about adding strength. "It's not just rehabbing your arm and the back. I took off my whole body for about a couple months. So, you got to get everything going again, all muscles firing again and all parts of your body. That's a big process, getting back in shape, running shape, football shape and getting your strength back. I've just been working on that the last few weeks, also." Gronkowski said he didn;t lose any weight while he was rehabbing. He did look noticeably skinnier during training camp, though. Gronkowski is listed at 265 pounds. "I don't really lose weight," Gronkowski said. "I can look skinny and still be the same amount of weight. It goes by skinny or looking jacked. So I was skinny back a few months."

The case in point is he had to take just as much time off his feet (arguably more, he had multiple surgeries), and he didn't report to the team looking like a meatball.

As someone mentioned up there, talk is cheap. I'll wait for the results.

He might have, if you know, he looked like a meatball in the first place.

And maybe if he was tasked to be an offensive lineman instead.

I'm not happy with Sullinger's physique, but on one side he was tasked with playing out of position where having weight might be of benefit and he had the whole back surgery issue (and if I recall correctly he looked skinnier to start the season than when he ended the previous one).

So we'll see.

I would like to know how long Sully has been working on his physical transformation. Did he just start, or has he been working out since shortly after the end of the season? If this has been a month and a half long process so far, I would like to see what he has accomplished so far. I think that keeping people updated would both give some level of reassurance to both fan and team (of course the team is getting updates though), and let other teams know that he will be even better than last year because he is indeed working on himself, and increasing his trade value.

But, yeah. I want to see pictures. I want to see results every few weeks. I want to see a montage of change by the end of the summer, Biggest Loser style.

I see that, I will have more confidence in his ability to work hard to improve; to reach his potential, and possibly go beyond what we see as his potential.

That said, if he transforms himself and is still anything but a 20/10 player next year, I will be disappointed.

I feel like every player that has been overweight has a similar article written about him in the offseason. I will believe it when I see pictures.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Really?  A 20/10 player is your threshold for not being disappointed?  There were only 5 of those in the NBA last year.  You should prepare to be disappointed.

I'm not nearly as worried about Sully's body as I am Olynyk's.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

That just happens to be one of my favorite Gronk quotes of all time. He's the ultimate frat bro.

I'm basing all of my observations on how he looked around and after the draft. He was ok in the beginning of his rookie year, then it got progressively worse as the season progressed. And then the surgery happened and it was all downhill from there.

In short, I don't really care if he looked like a meatball in the first place -- it's not really acceptable for a pro athlete.

I'm not nearly as worried about Sully's body as I am Olynyk's.

Olynyk was a scrawny skinny dude as a sophomore at Gonzaga.  He took a year off and transformed his body and game and became the best big in college.  He has to go further, but based off what he already accomplished, I thunk he will gain the additional 10-15 extra pounds of muscle he needs.

I have no problem with that observation, just merely pointing out the fallacy of the Gronk comparison in this case; time off due to injury for both players.

They both could improve in strength and fitness areas.  It will only help their game and the team.
