Ray is healthy and being the 4th or 5th option helps. What I hate is Ray Allen single handedly saved Bron Bron's rep. If he doesn't hit that 3 last year no one is talking about him being better than Larry or comparable to Jordan. Bron was choking down the stretch of that game and Ray bailed him out.
My thoughts exactly, but hey, what mercenaries are for? Two things stand out to me, watching him post-Celtics: 1) especially last night, I have never seen Ray Allen go after rebounds, key rebounds, like he has with the Heat. Where was that effort in Game 7? He was the one always cheating up the court. KG only had 3, but that was because he was helping so much on defense that you need your guards to rebound. Rondo had 7-8 I think, Pierce had 10, and Ray had, wait for it...2!!!! That game showed the difference between him and Kobe, just like in 1998, that game 7 showed the difference between Reggie and Michael. MJ and Bryant made up for their lack of shooting by doing whatever it took to win, which, in both games, happened to be rebounding, plus getting ridiculous calls and non-calls. It's like Ray thought it was beneath him or something, I'm not sure, but that still ticks me off. 2) Doc's offense sucked, plain and simple, but Ray always dribbled too much, and, a few plays aside, I never thought that the guy was a great ball-handler. With Miami, he doesn't try to turn the corner, largely because he doesn't have to, but why couldn't he have done that with us? Just take one step behind the pick and drill it. Quit with this pick and roll crap, although I know that that's mostly on Doc. Ray even occasionally posts up when he has a matchup advantage, not that he's very good at that. He's only got that Jordan-wannabe fadeaway jumper, but still. Why couldn't we have done that against Fisher? It's just frustrating.
