The HeatFan is just a troll, but he does have a point. Bashing a fan base based on some people leaving a game early is silly. It doesn't change the fact that the Heat do have true, hardcore fans like every other team. Remember that not every person at a basketball game (for ANY team) is a hardcore fan; some are casual fans, some are just parents bringing their kids to a sporting event. They have every right to leave early. Hell, I am a hardcore Celtics fan but I've left a couple of Celtic games early, because the outcome was assured and I knew that dealing with the post-game traffic would make it really difficult to get home. That doesn't make me any less of a fan, because I didn't stay to watch 30 seconds of free throws. And it's not fair to bash all of the true fans of a team because some family sitting in the top row left to get their kids home early.
It's idiotic, arrogant, and presumptuous. You will be hard pressed to find ANY NBA game where at least some people don't leave early, nevermind games that aren't close and the outcome is assured. Believe it or not, not every single human being on the planet is as obsessed with basketball as those of us who spend our times posting on a fan forum are. And, believe it or not, "fair weather fan" is not necessarily a bad thing (it is only annoying when the said fair weather fan PRETENDS that they were a fan all along); for example, I hate baseball. I think it is a boring sport and I don't enjoy watching it. That said, when the Red Sox are good I watch them and root for them, because of regional pride. But I don't enjoy the sport enough to watch them when they aren't. You can call me a bandwagon fan if you want, but why does it matter?
Accusations of band-wagon fans and such are for people to feel smug about themselves when they are watching the games from the comfort of their own couch. Just stop it already. This literally could have happened to any team in the NBA, and in fact it happens to each NBA team all the time. The Celtics are no exception. Unless someone can actually pull up numbers and prove that the Heat fan-base is disproportionately likely to do this, they have no leg to stand on.
EDIT: And calling people fake fans is ridiculous, as I said. The majority of people attending ANY sporting event are casual fans, usually families with children. What's the point of insulting these people for not knowing as much about the sport as you? Does it make you feel better about yourself to casually insult random children behind the anonymity of the Internet? Seriously, people, GROW UP. These sorts of threads reflect more poorly on YOU for being arrogant and condescending than it does of people who left a basketball game early.
