Trouble the refs just flat out are horrible. They would find a way to mess this up as well. They even see stuff on replay and don't reverse cards. Instant replay exposes them and their mistakes. Other league have much more competant individuals who don't get personal or favor stars as much.
These are by far the best officials in the history of basketball....Seriously. Earl Strom was never given the directive that a travel wasn't really a travel if Bird or Erving or Jabbar or Malone did it.
But today's official officiates by different rulebooks for different players...And they're amazingly consistent at doing so. Seriously....How do you watch wade, Paul, or los Nash carry the ball right in front of you time after time and consistently ignore it? How do you watch the 6'9" messiah take 3-4 giant strides without a dribble and have 3 officials not see it every single time? Pierce with his upfake/charge move? How does he get to the free throw line 19 times out of 20 when he's initiating the contact on a defender coming straight down?
These refs have been asked to consistently use different rulebooks for different players and are amazingly consistent at it. I seriously don't fault them. Earl Strom didn't have to be Earl Hebner to keep his job. The Crawfords do.
You're asking guys who've essentially become WWE officials to determine WWE moves...like flopping....Well...Maybe it isn't so much of a reach.
I would give each coach one flopping replay appeal per game. If a flop is determined he gets another appeal. A technical...2 shots and the ball should be the penalty.
