Just like last year I prefer the Spurs winning the championship over the Heat. Of course I prefer the Spurs' playing style, and think that Duncan deserves that Duncan deserves another ring. Of course that the Celtics' loss against the Heat in the 2012 Conference finals still hurts. Those are all great reasons for wanting the Spurs but let's think what scenario would benefit the C's more.

I don't think It's good to have one team sitting on top for such a long while. I mean, this is the Heat's fourth consecutive Finals appearance! Success should flow freely from one team to the other, competition is good! If the Celtics will be able to rise into contender status over the next few years we don't want the Heat to stay so powerful and with that much momentum. This why it is very important that the Spurs win, and that the Heat will face some adversity.

If you have a different opinion or have more reasons why the Spurs should win i'd like to hear.

I want the Spurs to win because

1)  I like Duncan

2)  I still believe Duncan was the best player of his generation and getting his 5th ring will remove that argument from the Kobe fans.

3)  It is more fun to root against the Heat.

I just hate Miami Heat so much that I'd root for any team they go against.

I always said when I left the Celtics, I could not go to heaven, because that would
be a step down. I am pure 100 percent Celtic. I think if you slashed my wrists, my

The Spurs have been my second favorite team since I read a David Robinson biography as a kid. Luckily (not for Celtics fans of course) they got Duncan and with Pop they've created one of the easiest franchises to like. They've never gone after big-name free agents and most of their stars are homegrown. And Ginobili in his prime was one of the most exciting players in the league to watch.

Conveniently a lot of their foes also have been or historically are the Celtics' foes, like the Lakers during the Shaq years and now Miami (you could also include the Kidd Nets who gave the Pierce/Walker Celtics' team fits). I don't really need the parallel rooting interest though.

It's hard not to look at the Spurs and wonder what might have been if we had gotten Duncan (and kept him which was no sure thing with Pitino around). Parker was also someone we could have easily had because we needed a PG that year and we had three first rounders. Instead, we took Joe Johnson (fine), Kedrick Brown (not so fine), and Joe Forte (really not fine).

10 years ago I'd never have imagined I'd be rooting for the Spurs, because they annoyed the crap out of me back then.  But they've cut down a lot on the flopping, Bowen and Horry are no longer out there playing dirty, and I've got a lot of respect for Duncan staying such a force in his late 30s and the Spurs organization putting so many high-quality role players around their aging stars.  And I love Pop, naturally.

Plus of course I can't stand Miami even more than I ever hated the Spurs.  But it'd be great to see San Antonio be rewarded for such amazing team building and execution.

I agree with you that the Spurs are very easy to like but for some reason many people say things like: "the Spurs are  boring" or "they win too much" and I just wish they'd get some more recognition.

Spot on. A 4th is that I just like what the Spurs have done as an organization in general. All there guys are easy to root for. Diaw - awesome. Danny Green - awesome. Leonard - awesome. Parker - Awesome. Ginobili - awesome. Bonner - awesome.

They don't have one guy that complains and whine in an overstated and annoying fashion and they just go out and get their jobs done.

LeBron is not a selfish player.  He passes in big moments.   ::)

I think we are past this then I go in a thread like this and see it's still all alive.

I bet you are one of those people that rip LeBron for passing and then also rip him for playing "superstar basketball".

I used to like the run'n gun Iceman Spurs.

His NBA scoring championship win one season over David Thompson was classic. They were neck and neck into the last game of the season when Thompson scored seventy something to forge ahead, seemingly insurmountably. Iceman goes out and scores 60+ to win the thing. Great stuff.

Haven't liked them since they got lucky with Duncan at our expense. Duncan was born to be a Celtic.

Especially didn't like them in last years Finals when Pop, Leonard and Ginobli "let" the cHeat steal the series from them.

I'm not rooting for the Spurs, I'm rooting against the cHeat.

I didn't think any explanations would be needed for rooting for the Spurs.  I think anyone rooting for the Heat should have to explain themselves ;)

for the life of me I can't think of a reason anyone would root for the Heat to win.  I just can't fathom it.  They epitomize everything wrong with the sport.  Spurs are a class organization that have been well run and play the game the way it should be played (short of making clutch FTs and falling apart at the end of Finals games the last couple of years)

you're mistaking me for saying hero ball.

superstar basketball is when you whine, flop, travel, and hack and still get all the calls thanks to your big superstar name.

and no, i'm not one of those. try again.
