CONCACAF representing.

After 2 games
Costa Rica with 6 points
Mexico with 4 points

After 1 game
United States with 3 points
Honduras with 0 points

Not a bad start for a "lesser" group of nations.

In the long run it's good news. The better the teams do in the tournament, the (relatively) more slots they end up with next time.

CONCACAF is playing a great tournament.

Costa Rica advances.
Mexico advances.
USA is on the verge of advancing.
Ecuador still has a chance to advance (although against France, that's a tall order).

They are doing pretty well.
Ecuador is not in CONCACAF - the fourth team is Honduras
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Meanwhile...on the field of play, Argentina and Nigeria were playing out an amazing match.

Bosnia up 2-0 now vs Iran.

Nigeria safe at 2nd place no matter whether they lose or win against Argentina.

Does anyone else think Argentina is having way too much luck in this tournament?

They're not playing that good, but Messi is making the difference for them time and time again.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

That's what happens when you have the best player in the world on your team.

seems to me they are toying with Nigeria. Mikel just lost a sterling opportunity to make it 3-3!

The thing is, he's not playing that great, either. I don't know, something's strange about this Argentina side.

Agreed.

Argentina don't look like WC winners to me. Weak at the back and in goal. Midfield doesn't link the game together. 4-5 guys attack and 4-5 guys defend. Not enough teamwork. Two separate teams inside a team. Attackers and defenders. Not enough togetherness.

Ah crap. Bummed I missed most of the Bosnia game.

Definitely have a soft spot for them. I have a few Bosnian friends, and anytime they can have something good happen puts a smile on my face. Their people really deserve it.

Fact check: Ronaldo plays for Portugal.  :D

Yeah, that could be it. They rely too much on moments of indivdual brilliance, and getting away with it. I mean, I've criticized Brazil for relying too much on Neymar, but at least they play like a cohesive team.

Surely this run can't last for another 4 games?

It could well last another four games. With so many big teams going out early this is the most open tournament in a very long time. They are most likely to come undone against a major European team such as Germany, France or the Netherlands.

He's like Durant to Messi's Lebron. Really good, but not on the same level.
