Seriously I've been reading this scouting report and how is he not a top 5 pick? Says he is super explosive, great at creating his own shot, and a great jumpshooter. Good size at 6'6...

Am I missing something?
Says he is a meh defender and struggles with contact, but this is the nba if theres contact he'll just go to the line.

Pretty much just the fact that he wasn't very good in college. People tend to take that seriously.

Exactly. I don't care how athletic he is, this kid did not impress me at UCLA.

I have no interest in him at all.  After a strong start, he was awful in the second half of the season and even worse in the conference and NCAA tournaments.  In his last five games of the season, he averaged 2.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, zero blocks, and zero steals.  He shot 4 for 19 from the field including 0 for 10 from three.  He totally fell apart when it mattered most.  No thanks

The kid didn't do a ton in UCLA. I would not draft this young man at #6. Very high bust potential in that spot.

He does have that freakish athleticism, but not having enough of a college basketball impact scares me.

As a project SG at #17, sure. But at #6, with Aaron Gordon, Marcus Smart, Noah Vonleg, Julius Randle, Jusuf Nurkic being available, picking him at #6 would be a a VERY HIGH risk selection.

Waaay too much talent in this draft to pick a completely unproven Lavine.  Maybe a 2nd round flier.

It sounds like like Levine didn't even have to beat the folding chair by dribbling around it... he just jumped over it.

I am curious where the good shooting story came from.

Jan-March Lavine is 30,7% from the NCAA 3point line, 40% 2p shooting. Even shooter's whipping boy Aaron Gordon shot better than him.

Very poor defender, very poor passer and facilitator. No way I am picking him at 17.

I'd consider taking him at 17. It's a high-risk high-reward proposition that would completely depend on intangibles, interviews, etc. to determine whether he's coachable and dedicated to improving his all-around game. Even in that case, there will be a lot of good prospects available at 17 that I might rather go with: Warren, Porzingis, Anderson, etc. A quality SG like Stauskas or Harris might slip, and I'd have a hard time passing on either of them for a totally unproven athletic freak like LaVine.

He is years away from contributing. If Cs went full rebuild and traded Rondo I would be on board with drafting this kid. #6 would still be to early and I think he is off the board at #17.

I agree about Lavine BUT why even mention Nurkic in the same breath as Aaron Gordon, Marcus Smart, Noah Vonleg, Julius Randle?!?!?!

Gerald Green is 6'7.

If only he didn't lose a finger...who knows.

Edit:

So what happens if we add a finger to Gerald Green but subtract 2 inches in height.

I am intrigued by his athletic ability but I fear he could he another Gerald Green late boomer type who won't help us for a long time and we sour on and ship out.

Lavine can actually handle the ball so that gives him a huge leg up on Gerald.  If Gerald wasn't such a terrible ballhandler, he might be an all-star.  As such, his limitation hinders his ability to attack the basket as well as move the defense to create passing opportunities.

It was really frustrating to watching Lavine just stand around and never get the ball.  When he was out there with Kyle Anderson, Jordan Adams and the Wear twins, it was understandable because he was only a freshman and those other guys were more established and the team leaders.  But when he was out there with Alford's son, it was incredibly frustrating to see Alfred's son, who called himself a "pure point" before the season, monopolize the ball so much.  The worst was when the shot clock got down to 15 seconds left, which is still an ample amount of time, and the "pure point" would go into iso scoring mode 90 percent of the time.  I could understand Lavine leaving just to get away from Alford and his son.

Towards the end of the season, Lavine showed some ability to attack the paint as well as create for teammates off the dribble.  Players who are 6'5 with all-around skills and plus athleticism just do not come around all that often.  His weight and thin frame bother me the most.  I'm not sure his frame can handle much more weight. Is he going to be able to get to the line?  Is he going to be overpowered defensively?  Still, with the 17th pick, he'd be definitely worth the gamble.  It doesn't look like he's going to get there however.

Can we throw in a brain transplant into this Shelly-esque creation too?  :)
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
