How does this effect us and our chances at Love?

It doesn't.  Small chance it affects our chances at Melo, but that largely depends how great you think our chances are to begin with.

Maybe I'm confused on all of this...wouldn't this allow Houston to deal Parsons as part of a Love deal? Find it curious that the story from Sean Deveney saying the Wolves want a "young star" as part of a deal, then this news comes out...

Also part of that story, however, was that Minny wants a top pick this year which Houston obviously doesn't have....

Head is spinning.

But Houston could have traded Parsons for Love beforehand. They would have had to send out a lot more than just him to even up the salaries, but they still could have done it.

Now, if they want to trade Parsons for Love, Parsons will have to agree to sign a deal with Minnesota via a sign and trade.

As said a few times, Parsons would have to agree to asign-and-trade.  This doesn't magically happen because it would be convenient for Houston. If Minny is willing to pay him ridiculous amounts of money, then maybe he helps with Love.  This is doubtful.  What it does is allows Houston to keep Parsons beyond this year, because he'd probably leave as an unrestricted free agent in 2015.  Maybe a sign-and-trade is worked out elsewhere to a destination Parsons might like to go to , and maybe that sign-and-trade nets Houston assets to send to Minny for Love, but that's a lot of maybes, and it requires the maybe that Love is not traded on draft night, since Houston can't trade Parsons until July 10th.

It could matter for Melo, or even LeBron, but it's highly unlikely this matters for Love.

From the same article:

"In one scenario, Houston could secure three max-out players ? including Howard, Harden and a potential star free agent ? and then re-sign Parsons to an extension below the max-level range. Parsons could command in the $12 million to $13 million annual range, league executives tell Yahoo Sports."

- Apparently Rockets have thought this out and can sign 3 max contracts and Parsons at a near max at 12-13. Parsons has said he wants to stay. Maybre enough for a small discount off market?  Who knows how the timing goes with the CBA and it's million and one rules, but we shouldn't assume that Rockets have made some mistake.

- HOU has to rid themselves of Asik and Lin in any large transaction.  Maybe we're the destination.

- Hear Anthony's name a lot more than Love in connection with the Rockets.  Don't see how Love or Anthony works for HOU whose main issues are defense and bench. Touches for D12 could also become a hot topic.

- Haven't seen any love from T-Wolves fans for any deal with HOU yet.  T-Wolves don't need Asik or Lin.

The Houston Rockets plan to decline the fourth-year option on forward Chandler Parsons' contract, freeing him to become a restricted free agent this summer, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Rockets are pursuing Minnesota's Kevin Love in trade talks too, and Parsons could hold sign-and-trade possibilities.

Maybe the Rockets figured this is just the swiftest and safest way to lock Parsons to a long term deal, and the trade issues are secondary.

all these trade ideas from Houston/Golden state are nice, but as stated in a recent CBS article....

In Truth, neither the Warriors or Rockets can provide a set of assets which the Timberwolves will find adequate for the All-Star power forward. They're seeking multiple assets and picks , which the Cavaliers, Bulls and Celtics can all provide.

granted, I dont see what the bulls can offer better than the celtics. Alot of teams are going to want love, but what does Minnesota want? If Love has Boston as one of his preferred destinations and they can give Minneosta what they want it makes both teams happy.

I actually can't help but wonder if this is also a ploy to look to acquire Rondo. Parsons via sign and trade, if Love isn't happening, makes some sense. Not the return Id wanted, but some sense.

It's also probably a ploy for Love.

I kind of wonder the same thing, sort of.

I think that Houston is trying to raise the cost of Love by showing interest. With the cost too high, Boston won't take him, and Rondo will ask for a trade. Houston will swoop in and ask for a trade for Rondo, while also trying to either pick up Melo, or maybe even decide not to renounce Parson's rights. I think there are a lot of plans at play with this move for Love.

A Houston and Boston standoff for two stars...

I wonder how this would affect our chances at getting Asik. Many people just assumed we would take Asik (or Asik/Lin) with our TPE to allow them to go after Melo. If we get super lucky and snag both Love and Melo, it is possible that Asik will be off the table (if not for lack of assets, then for spite of beating them to get Love/Melo).

Might have to rethink that rim-protecting center idea...

I'd love to have Parsons here.   Good solid player.  Should be a perfect fit in Brad Stevens schemes.

I don't think Parsons would be coming here unless Rondo was going to Houston

I'm too emotionally invested in this Rondo/Melo/Love thing to resign myself to a team of Lin/Bradley/Parsons/Sullinger/Olynyk next season

I mean it does help a team trade for Parsons as they'll be able to negotiate the contract they want with him now instead of next offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

But I don't think this changes much with regards to Kevin Love, Houston doesn't have much to offer compared to GSW/BOS/CHI
