In addition to our guys aging poorly, Rondo isn't as good as Parker, especially in terms of running the type of offense the Spurs do.
Biggest factor in their recent runs is Kahwai. That young stud who does so much for them, saves the legs of everyone else on the team.

Efficient scorer, creates extra possessions, allows them to play small, and is their primary wing defender.

I figure you're just joking here, but Kawhi was awesome that game.

He had 22 points and 11 rebounds on 14 shots and 4 free throws, that was his only free throw miss in the game. He also got the steal that turned the 2 point lead into a 4 point lead by getting a fast break foul that Ginobli converted into 2 more points.

Parker's well worse than a healthy Rondo at everything but scoring.

Parker's better penetration and scoring off that dribble penetration is what makes the Spurs ball motion offense go.

Better scorer, better shooter, better at getting to the line.  Parker is also the PG on an offense that has finished in the top-7 for the last four years.  For the offensive style the Spurs play, Parker is a better fit.

And Rondo's dribble penetration has always been an integral part of our offense. I wasn't breaking my analysis down as finely as that, so I'd say that Parker's dribble penetration is similar to Rondo's, not well worse.

That's like saying Rondo's better at many different types of passes than just a better passer. I don't think there's a lot of evidence that Rondo couldn't run a top level offense with similar teammates, other than Parker being a better off the ball scoring threat is helpful for all the time Manu spends running the offense.

But he missed the free throw. HE LACKS THE WILL TO WIN.

Ainge didn't get Garnett enough big man help in the paint.

Spurs were going nowhere in the playoffs until Duncan got Tiago Splitter alongside him to help shore up the Spurs interior defense + rebounding.

After Garnett had his injury the second year into it, I think that took away too much from him. That was the worst feeling.

I think that the fact that the shooters on the Spurs around Parker collectively shot close to 49% (2nd best in the NBA) while the shooters on the Celtics around Rondo collectively shot 43.5% (2nd worst in the NBA) might have a bit more to do with it.

So if I'm driving a perfectly well maintained Porsche around the track while you are driving a broken down old Chevette with two of it's 4 tiny cylinders misfiring, that makes me the better driver, right?
