Can we get Melo this year if he opts out?

Rondo/Bradley/Melo/Love/Asik??

We don't have the cap space to sign him unless he takes a huge pay cut.

That's what I was thinking, similar to Bosh, Wade, and James, when they went to Miami, they all left a lot on the table.  Melo has made over 175 million, he needs to think championship at this point of his career.  Rondo/Bradley/Melo/Love/Asik would be a formidable team.

the next move i think is going after lance stephenson, while a love bradley we can draft marcus smart for a similar role but off the bench
but depending on what we have to give up to acquire kevin love picking up a pf or sf could be more prevalent

Afflalo, Tyreke Evans, Deng, Josh Smith, Hayward unless Melo just loves what he sees and makes himself get traded here.

Another to think about:

Make our team so appealing with such an obvious deficit at the wing that Durant wants to come here. Pitch him the "Havlicek -> Bird -> Pierce HoF Wings & Titles" card.

melo will never happen, wouldnt mind deng but no team is gonna take on jeff greens contract, i like lance stephenson more than hayward afflalo or evans

If we land Love, the next move would be targeting Melo.   Asik might not fit into that plan.

Depends on if we trade out Jeff Green or Wallace... but we'd end up having something like 44-50 mil on the books with a cap at 58 mil.

So then you convince Melo to come to Boston.

Then you have a couple options...

#1 - Give up draft pick(s) to a team who is willing to absorb the salary of Wallace or Green (whichever one we still have)... then use the cap space to sign Melo outright.

#2 - Call the Knicks and threaten to do step 1... either they take what we give them for Melo in a sign-and-trade... or they lose Melo for nothing.

Asik might not fit into that plan, because I'm not sure we'll have the contracts to trade for him.

We'd also have to let Bradley walk in this scenario.  But once you have a big 3 of Rondo, Love and Melo... the rest shouldn't be too hard to fill out.

Yep, I think Melo is a real possibility as well. Gary Harris is my current draft binkie because he can shoot and defend, but substitute whatever SG you think we can land from this draft with the #17 pick and possibility of moving around in the 1st round.

Step 1: #6, Sully, Green + future pick(s) + odds and ends for Kevin Love
Step 2: Trade exception + future pick(s) for Asik
Step 3: Unload Wallace, Bass, Bradley for cap room or picks, in some combination

Now you're at Rondo, Love, Asik, Olynyk, Harris for about $40M
Offer to Melo (here's where it gets tricky) would have to start around $18M... close but a pay cut.

Rondo
Harris
Melo
Love
Asik
+
Olynyk, MLE, minimum guy(s)

It would, at a minimum, be [dang] interesting to see.

Rudy Gay may not be worth 18 mil, but if he could be had for Green, Wallace, and picks, he would be a good 2nd option to Love.  If done along with the Humphries sign and trade for Afflalo:

Asik
Love
Gay
Afflalo
Rondo
---------
Bradley
Olynyk
MLE

How many draft picks would be used in trades for Asik, Love, Gay, Afflalo?
