We got the Sixers pick and the Miami pick for taking on Joel Anthony's $3.8 million contract for next year.  You expect them to take back the same, plus whatever relatively minimal value Faverani gives you, for getting out from the $20.2 million over two years owed to Wallace?

Never going to happen.

Yeah, I mean taking on the contract and giving up Crawford (and Brooks) for a 2nd rounder or two still seems very questionable to me. Crawford was having a great year, it seems to me another team would have been willing to give up just a 2nd for him w/ an expiring coming back our way. Unless Danny has a crystal ball and can see that Philly will make the playoffs next year, this deal made absolutely no sense.

The deal made a lot of sense.  Crawford had very limited value.  He had a good three week stretch, but NBA execs generally aren't idiots, despite our perceptions of them.  Crawford had a three-year reputation of being a ball-hogging chucker who played no defense.  A few weeks of not chucking, before reverting back to his old ways, wasn't going to fool them.  Remember, we got him in 2013 for Jason Collins and Barbosa -- after Barbosa had a torn ACL.  His value around the league was next-to-zero.  The Warriors were willing to pay us cash for him, and take Brooks' contract as well so that we could take on Anthony and get picks.

The deal also made sense because Ainge has had little intention of using cap space this upcoming season.  He has a $10 million trade exception, and about $8 million in non-guaranteed contracts that can bring back upwards of $12 million in salary.  He would have to forego all of that, as well as the mid-level exception and Avery Bradley, to have any meaningful cap room.  It was simply not worth it.  The opportunity cost of Anthony was small, so getting even three second round picks was a good haul.  Crawford and Brooks made it possible.

Say we get love and asik, if we need to include green than I'm fine with it.  Wallace can start at sf, love at pf can spread the floor so Wallace can fill lanes, drive, rebound and play good defense.  He is a good enough player that we shouldn't dump him AND his contract can be used in a trade to equal values if needed

Supposedly HOUston wants as little salary coming back in an Asik/Lin salary dump as possible and will give something else away to do so (late first or PF Jones). They won't want Green (they have Parsons).

You are seriously ready to back up the point that 'the deal made a lot of sense'? I wasn't an enormous Crawford fan, but for a half-season off the bench for a playoff team, he would have been worth a 2nd round pick...without having to take back a dead-weight contract.

Ainge may have had no intention on using cap space this off-season, but this certainly made sure that he had less flexibility. Ainge also has been known to buy 2nd round picks when he sees fit - I just didn't see the reasoning unless Anthony was willing to not pick up his contract.

Yes, the deal made a lot of sense.  He had one asset of minimal value in Crawford, and one asset of zero value in Brooks.  Both of those assets had an expiration date of the trade deadline a few weeks, and Crawford was going to lose his limited value with the return of Rondo days later.

For that, he got at worst three second round picks, one of which is guaranteed to be early in the round.  At best, he gets a pick in the 15-20 range of the 1st round and a second round pick.  Even Joel Anthony, the cost of getting those picks, is now an expiring contract and may be used as salary filler in a deal for a star, which Brooks and Crawford would have been unable to do.  At the cost of cap space he was never going to use because he had equivalent if not superior means of adding payroll, and players who had little to no present or future value, he acquired multiple draft picks.  It was a great deal.

Now if you guys value a "potential" mid first pick in 2015, and paying 20 million dollars to Wallace..fine

Or if the Sixers are looking like they're making the playoffs at the deadline, they would like to Keep their first rounder I bet, and likely take Wallace' contract, he could play up his trade value by that deadline you know.
 
And if he doesnt they still got a bunch of capspace. I would take Richardsond expiring, maybe agree on a buyout for less. Or flip him to 3rd team.

That first have very little value to me, Ainge was probably thinking along those linnes, if the Sixers makes the playoffs, they like to keep their pick and I could dump Wallace on them!

It turned into the Crawford trade because there is ZERO ZILCH NADA way that the Sixers take on $20 million of Wallace's salary for the same package plus Faverani we got for taking on $3.8 million of Anthony's salary.

Look, I'd do that deal any day of the week, and I'm sure Danny would too.  But the point of rehashing the Crawford trade was to show how little value Crawford had, which means that we were really being paid for taking on Anthony's contract next year.  And if we got the Philly protected 1st and the Miami 2nd for taking on Anthony, the cost of getting rid of Wallace is significantly more -- probably two first-round picks, and probably not with too much protection on them.

I just hate how Wallace complains about not starting/everything. I can not believe the nets gave up what would have been Lillard for him....omg i hate him more
