Interesting. I don't see Saric going at 6 or 7...Would teams pass on him to let him trickle down to 17? And if so would we pick him there?
This is a slightly misleading statement, in my opinion, regarding only playing for the Celtics or Lakers. Because of the draft slotting system, Saric is expected to be paid by a European team somewhere between what #5-7 will get paid next year by an NBA team, probably closer to #5. Accordingly, Saric won't come over if he's getting substantially less in the US than in Europe.
I don't see Saric sliding all the way to #17, however, There are a few teams with multiple picks who are ahead of us, and would be willing to wait on Saric for three years, which is the point at which he would no longer be subject to the rookie salary restrictions. Specifically, if he falls past #8, you have Charlotte (#9 and #24), Philly (#3, #10, and obviously patient), Orlando (#4 and #12), Phoenix (#14, #18, and #27), and Chicago (#16 and #19). Additionally, if Minnesota gets a top ten pick for Love, they will have a second pick at #13. I can't see how one of those teams with multiple picks wouldn't take Saric before #17.
