I'm reading this Men's Fitness Q&A with Brad Stevens and this stuck out to me with the draft in mind:

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a prospective player?

Stevens: A baseline level of talent, then you?re looking for guys that are into the team. Their presence in the locker room raises everybody else on the court. There are a few teams that just exude that. And there are a lot of us who are striving to get to the point where you have that perfect mix.

Now, I'm not saying this is the end all be all of who Stevens wants Ainge to pick...However, it's logical to say that when Stevens puts in his two cents on draft night, he'd likely toss out the names of Randle, Smart & Gordon...Those three, especially the last two, would fit that profile perfectly.

Just something to share that I thought was interesting.

Marcus Smart? Danny is already supposedly enamored with him and by all accounts, he has a KG-like intensity to him.

A couple weeks ago I remember Brad saying something like "we want defenders".

Not to mention Ainge loves combo guards like Daryl Morey loves numbers.

Mostly, I'd say that Ainge probably prefers to avoid the kind of guys whose priority is scoring.  I have a feeling that a ball-dominant scoring wing who demands having the ball in his hand is not the kind of guy who would fit well with Stevens and the Celtics will look for a different kind of player to provide go-to scoring punch.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I heard Brad Stevens orders a sausage mcmuffin combo, but specifically asks that they hold the hash browns. Rumor has it that the hash browns are only out for their own crispy goodness, and aren't into Being part of a complete meal.

Yeah If there's one thing this bottomfeeder newage celtics team wants to avoid... it's guys who can score.  Ain't no place for none of them scorey types on our roster.

iirc you said you would be more than happy to get a top 8.

Now you're bashing it...

What gives?

I don't think he's bashing getting a top 8 pick. He's bashing the, 'Stevens/Ainge won't pick a scorer' sentiment.

What management wants is a team oriented fella. Not a me first (hello westbrook!, hello kyrie!) scorer who is ball-dominant.

I think Stevens and Ainge would like a scorer, I just don't think they want a selfish scorer.  I think they would prefer a guy who can score but might need to be told to look for his own shot more instead of a guy who needs to be reminded that basketball is a five-on-five game, not a one-on-five game.

I mean... we had one of the 5 worst offenses in the league.   Our top scorer was #40 in the league.   That's rough.  Clearly we need an elite scorer on this team at some point.

Anyways, I'm sure we'll take the best player available.  No worries.

I'd like the Celtics to mostly target Gordon, cause he can play the three , but Randle and Smart are probably my favorites after him. Good to know Stevens wants them.

Gordon can play the three in some lineups, but is not a three.  I think Ainge will pick whomever he think is the best player, because teams who mess up top picks often do so because they pick out of need.  If he picks another PF, which is likely just given who will be available, it's because he intends to get talent and let the talent sort itself out.  But Gordon is a very athletic 4.  He will not be picked because he can play the three in a pinch.
