I'm definitely still feeling Gordon over Smart, even after seeing this video.  I just don't see Marcus as a potential franchise player.  I don't see Gordon that way either, but I do think his skill set and position are attributes that will be more beneficial to the Celtics.

At the :38 second mark Danny Ainge is seen sitting over in the corner giddy as heck (black vest, blue shirt).

This kid is a flat out steal at #6.

While Marcus Smart himself may end up being a dud, he's the type of player that the team needs at this point.

I think Smart is the most competitive player at the top of the draft.  He's young and can't always control his emotions, but aside from some rare instances, he out works everyone on the floor.  I think he's a better 2 than 1, but I'd be quite pleased with a three-guard rotation of Rondo, AB, and Smart.  There will be days when he drives you crazy and does something inane, he'll probably get suspended for a game a year for losing it, but you'll never have to wonder if he has that competitive fire.  In my opinion, while he might not have the highest ceiling of a few of the other players we're looking at, he's most likely to get there, because he won't be intimidated by the NBA.

I appreciate the links to these draft workout videos, and I watch each of them, but [dang], the videos don't tell me a thing about these players other than how big they are and how high they can jump, which the draft measurements tell as well, and more accurately.

I mean, from this video Smart looks like a bigger Stephen Curry with all those smooth jumpers, and we know that's not the case.

Good looking workout . Some notes

The Good: When he is shooting he is not leaning or turning his body on the follow through.  Shot has improved

The Bad: He still is bringing the ball down before shooting.   In the nba he is asking to get his shot blocked or for him to twist his body again etc to get a clear shot off. Especially against, longer, taller defenders.

He looks like he can now make the open jumpers but the jury is out imo on one or two dribbles and a jump shot. Or coming around screens etc.

I won't be disappointed if we draft him but i rather take Gordon or Randle

How good of a 2 (or modern PG) can he be if he can't even hit the college 3?

Blurry videos. No hd version

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFPfOsu_gAY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aODHM-h6F-k

found this Julius Randle workout video. But it published at March 30, 2014.  No date/info showing if this is a recent workout. But his shot looks different than how he shot the ball at college

The Good: no winding back when shooting .  More squared up when shooting.

The Bad: Unlike jump shot seen from Gordon or Smart's workout (though those ones prob edited), he is still missing quite a bit of shot.  Not alot of arc on his shot.  If he hasn't improved his shot since this video was shot to recent, Randle will likely drop.

How many 3s did he take off the dribble vs. catch-and-shoot?  Most players struggle at creating their own 3... I'd say the only one in the draft who doesn't is Stauskas.  Brings down his numbers for sure.  Not saying he's great at it, but I bet looking at his 3-point pct doesn't tell the entire story.

Wade is a mediocre 3-point shooter, and he's been a great NBA player at the 2 doing a lot of different things -- things Smart is all capable of.  It helps if you can shoot the 3, but it's not necessary.

I just think Smart is better as a secondary ball-handler than primary ball-handler, which is why I see him at the 2 moreso than the 1.  He's a viable dribbler and passer, but not Rondo.

He CAN hit 3s, and will be a better 3 point shooter than DWade, and definitely better shooter than Rondo.

Smart just had to play a lot of hero ball on that team, and even then he started off the season very hot from 3 even though taking all kinds of highly contested shots.

Spot up 3s are no problem for him, and if that's his biggest weakness, that's a very good thing.

He would have been the number 1 pick last year, and probably would have been rookie of the year. We'll be lucky if he is there at 6, even though I like other guys.

I'd agree with the premise of this.

Well I'm about ready to start a smear campaign so Utah doesn't draft him.

I. Want. Marcus. Smart.

Marcus Smart may still end up being a tweener who can't get his shot off against NBA competition and isn't a sufficiently good playmaker. That's not the point.

The point is that the Celtics need the type of player that can make things happen with the ball in his hands. And I mean more things than simply setting up teammates for wide open jumpshots. I feel that if Smart was to develop as expected, that's the type of player he'd be.
