Every time I come back to thinking it would be best to just draft Marcus Smart if we're lucky enough that he's available at 6, Aaron Gordon does something that makes me think he can bring much of what Smart can, but in a 6'9 body that may still be growing.

Smart could basically replace Rondo and Bradley, while Gordon could basically replace Green and Brandon Bass, and Wallace if anybody wanted him.

C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I like Gordon a lot and would be very happy with him as our selection with the 6th pick, but I am not loving his way out in front shot release. In this workout, he obviously looks fantastic and has better moves and range than I thought he might show,

I realize his athleticism and defense are what he is being drafted for and those two things are minimized in this type of workout. Any offense he shows should be a bonus - I definitely think this solidifies his position in the draft.

I'm starting to get excited about Gordon.  His head was rim high on a couple of those dunks and it looked so effortless.  His shooting form looked fine too.

Of course all these guys look good without anyone playing defense.  :)

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Gordon can jump out of the gym...amazing athleticism and power. His shot looks nice and smooth without the hitch he's had.

Most of these guys are top 3 picks in any other draft.
We are very lucky even if we can't get Love with one of them.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Gordon is not 19 until next September and grew two inches his freshman year in college.  The kid is going to be a contributor right from the start and still has so much time to develop the rest of his game.

Gordon or Smart and I'm happy...

Gordon looks like he will be able to play SF just fine which is key if we draft him.  He had good dribbling and passing skills as well as his defense in the few games I've seen him play.

Now of course Marcus Smart's workout video is due to be released in the next day or two, and I'll be back to square one. Here is a preview:

Gordon's been my guy at 6 all along.  High floor, and high ceiling, and one of the youngest guys in the draft.  Will defend from day 1, and nowhere near as inept as is being claimed on offense.  I think he'll end up being great value at 6.

I'll pass on Smart.  Not a natural PG, in my view, and has a lousy shot.  I give him the tenacious part, but that's simply not enough at 6.  No way could he replace Rondo.  Bradley, maybe, although Bradley's a much better shooter than Smart.  Anyway... pass.

This draft is so much deeper than the last couple.  I'm convinced we'll come away with a contributor at 17.  I like McDaniels a lot, but there are a number of guys that I'd be happy with there.  Not sold on Anderson at all, who I think would be a wasted pick.  Nurkic would be interesting if still available at 17, too, and Hairston can surely stroke it, too.  I like Napier pretty well, too, but seems like something of a reach at 17.  Really happy that we won't have to select from the likes of Fab Melo at 17.

Gordon has put on at least 5-7 pounds of muscle.  His jump shot looks smoother than before. No hesitation and he was not lying he fixed it up

Guys this is going to be a good draft for us. Let the other 5 teams make their choices or mistakes and we will wait for the best one to drop  (the way we ended up with Pierce and Sullinger) .

Right now i have

1. Cavs - embiid
2. Bucks - Exum
3. 76ers - Parker
4. Magic - Wiggins
5. Jazz - Gordon
6. Celtics - Randle
7. Lakers - Smart
8. Kings - Vonleh

The celts i think will go with Gordon or Randle, whoever is left. Smart is an option also but the celtics have alot of guard options at 17. Personally i rather have Hairston who can shoot lights out over Smart.

What I don't like about the LaVine workout video is that he is wearing low top sneakers, and not showing off any moves based on lateral quickness, except his little step backs where he takes 3 steps every time.

LaVine posted great agility times at the Combine, but he so far seems to only play like a straight line athlete.
