What's your "Small potatoes" plan if we keep the pick?

Say Love goes to the Lakers as expected. 

Say we draft a PF with the pick (Gordon, Vonleh, Randle)...  seems likely.

We now have 3 young PF's that I want to succeed.  Sully's a PF.  Oly's a PF.  Our rookie is a PF.  All of them have great potential.  All of them theoretically could be the future of the Celtics.   What the heck do you do with 3 PFs + Bass + Hump if we bring him back? 

Can you play any combo of these kids at the same time long-term?  Oly can't be a long-term SF, right?  Can Gordon?  Can Sully be a long-term center?  Doesn't this necessitate a trade at some point? 

So do you have any small-potatoes trade ideas you'd accept?   Like Sully straight-up for a young SG or something?   Oly for a SF?  Thoughts?

Could you fix this through the draft?  Like if Doug McDermott slips to 12 and the Magic would prefer a big, do you try trading Sully for the 12th pick and take McDermott? 

Could you go after someone like Harrison Barnes?  Sully + 17 for Barnes?

I can tell you're upset we didn't get a Top 3 pick, but I assure you Danny tried his darndest to make that happen.  It started by trading away 2 of our 3 best players... the guys who had carried us to the playoffs last season.  Then we gave significant minutes to tankerrific Jordan Crawford... it backfired and we started winning games, so Danny traded him away to secure the tank.  He traded away Courtney Lee despite teh fact Lee was our most efficient scorer on the team.  He tried hard to dump players like Bass who were contributing.  I think ultimately we just had a bit too much talent to fully bottom out.  The season went backwards from how I expected.  I figured we'd be one of the worst teams in the league until Rondo returned... and then slowly dig ourselves out of a Top 5 pick thanks to Rondo's leadership.  In reality, it was the other way around... we were mediocre early on, Ainge made some trades to ensure we stunk... and then once ROndo returned we were full-blown awful.   We won a couple games with Rondo playing... we had like a 16 win pace with him running the show.  Just terrible.   

I figured we'd get a top 8 pick this season... most people expected us to win about 27 games.  We ended up getting the #6 pick and winning 26.  There's nothing to be mad about.

We can't draft Randle. He maybe the best of what is left when we pick, but we would be in a pretty good sized predicament if we do take him. I know that the option to trade KO and Sully still remains, but what are we going to get in return - a pick around #20? In a number of people's minds, we would then essentially have traded the 6th pick for #20 (since many around here see Randle and Sully as equals).

With Gordon, he can pretty clearly play sf - especially with guys like KO and [kind of] Sully who can stretch the floor. Vonleh's eventual position will most likely be C, so I have no problem with him. Obviously there is also Smart who should be able to play either guard position.

I honestly have no idea how this draft will play out - not everybody can be an all-star, but we are being told that many have this potential.

I think Gordon could play the 3 with a slimmed down sully at the 4 and a bulked up Olynyk at the 5. Since ko and sully can shoot it would help spread the floor for Gordon to attack the rim. I think Gordon could also help protect the rim from the 3 spot if the right defense is played.

I don't intend to confront the ugly reality of keeping the pick - and the years of futility that will ensue - until Glen Taylor sends Kevin Love somewhere besides Boston.

Until that happens, I am confident that we will not pick at 6.

This thread is based on multiple assumptions. Why assume the Celtics draft yet another PF? Just so we can can entertain the idea of trading one of our proud Celtics players?

My small beans idea would be to take Marcus Smart at #6. If he isn't there, trade down to 9 or 10 and take best player available, while picking up the 24th pick from Charlotte to get #9, or picking up two or three second rounders from PHI to trade down to #10.

Take Nurkic at 9 or 10, Anderson or Warren or Porzingis at #17, and somebody like Jordan Adams or Napier at #24, or any of a bunch of good players available at 32 and 39 from the 6ers.

Draft for iq and shoting touch  at 17
Use TE to get asik or sanders
Begin the season with:
Rondo, pressey
Bayless, rook
Green, Gordon/saric (g/s)
Sully, oly, g/s
Asik/sanders, vitor
Use 1/2 season to evaluate rooks, team chem.
At deadline use sully, green ( if g/s look good) expirings and a few picks to get love or a #1option wing.
Finish season with core of rr, g/s, love, asik/Saunders.
Assuming we are able to resign love, rondo, asik in 2015-16 we will make playoffs with no changes,
Following year we get nets lotto pick and keep reloading through 18 (thanks nets)

Don't take a power forward at six.  Go with either Smart, Gordon (SF), Saric (SF), or maybe even Vonleh (potential to play center).

Use the TPE to get Asik.  If that's not possible, sign a free agent center (Okafor?).  Or, make a smaller trade for one (Sanders, Noel, Mozgov?).  Or, draft one at 17 (Nurkic?). 

I don't know what Danny will do.  But, it seems to me that he's got some options outside of hitching all of our hopes and dreams to the Love Train.

Still not sure why this outcome is "expected". I mean, based on what authority or what report should this be the expectation at all? Sources close to Love have said he wants to win, period and is not looking to just go to LA or NY.

I just want Ainge to draft the best player available regardless of position.   It creates good competition if you have people fighting for playing time.

Smart could provide a nice 3 guard rotation with Bradley and Rondo, and maybe you keep Bayless around.

If we draft a PF I wouldn't be surprised if Bass is traded to a contender.  If we draft a SF same goes for Green as we still have Wallace.

I also wouldn't mind trading back to pick up another first rounder as I'm intrigued by players like McDermott, Warren, Stauskus, Harris, and Payton.

If we are going to be patient I wouldn't worry about a rim protector if one isn't available, but I don't know if Rondo can be patient for another year.

We've seen the last couple trades were 3 team deals so maybe we'll see something like that.  I have no idea. I've come to expect the unexpected with Ainge.

I would not be surprised if Danny trades either Olynyk or Sullinger this off-season to help get a center. 

If he does that, I would vastly prefer that Sully be traded.  I think he probably has better trade value right now than Olynyk, but I think Kelly has the potential to be a better player long-term.

Let me add that I'd like to see Danny make a play for Gortat.  I doubt we have the resources to get that done (and Washington seems to want to keep him), but it's worth a shot.

Trade for Asik...I'm guessing the Pierce TE and a couple of 2nd (Philly's?) will do it.

9 man rotation. We rotate 3 bigs (Asik, Sullinger, Olynyk). Sometimes have Saric at the 4. Olynyk/Sullinger and Stauskas/McLemore will battle it out for starting spots. Regardless, all 4 will earn significant playing time. We would lose our fair share of games, but that is a good young foundation with plenty of upside and gives us immense cap space/flexibility in the summer of 15.
