The idea here is that Exum isn't a great fit in Utah but would entice MIN in a Love deal. Also pulls in a long discussed AB for Hayward swap. At #17 I would probably look to add a wing like Warren, Anderson, RobinsonIII, or Early. Also, I would hope that at some point Danny would look to add a defensive center (eg Gortat, Varejao, Sanders, Gasol)

One problem with trades like these is that they rely on sign-and-trades.  However, the draft takes place before teams are allowed to negotiate with free agency.  It would be extremely risky for teams to draft for one another, in hopes that their free agents would eventually agree to a sign-and-trade to their trading partner.

Well everyone is rumored to like and not like evey player at one point or another. For me, though, Exum just doesn't seem to be a great fit. As for what we give up not being enough, I would simply ask who is not getting enough in return in the deal and does it change if that team gets an additional pick?

Simple, Minnesota isn't getting enough for a top 5 to top 10 players plus neither is the Jazz especially since they have already said numerous times that they will match any offer for Hayward.  I haven't read anywhere that the Jazz didn't like Exum.  but I have read in numerous places including ESPN and Hoopsworld and others that they like him.   Please point out 1 place where you have read that the Jazz don't like Exum.  Plus even if that's true there are a ton of teams that like him so they could get far more than he package you describe.  Also, why wouldn't they just match any offer for Hayward and then draft Vonleh themselves?


We make out great in this trade and the other 2 teams are screwed.  The Jazz essentially trade Hayward and the # 5 pick to trade down a spot and get Bradley and Barea (a backup PG) while giving up Hayward. In what world do you think that would happen?

It sounds like you just don't like Bradley. Some actually prize his defensive ability. I mean, he is a lockdown defender at his position. Plus, Barea is a perfect scorer off the bench. He was a huge contributor to the DAL title run. I could see adding another future 1st to Utah, but I certainly don't think they are getting "screwed."

As for MIN, you say Utah could get "far more" for Exum yet also think that he and Sullinger (a burgeoning all-star) and a future 1st is robbery for a player that says he's LEAVING. I don't see how a prized prospect plus a pick and young starting PF is getting "screwed" either...

I believe the idea is to re-unite Gordon with Brad Stevens, a combination who came about an inch from beating Duke in the Championship.

Never have I said that I don't like Bradley.  Everyone likes his defensive ability but he doesn't have nearly the value as Hayward, plus he's injury prone.  The Jazz have already said time and again they are matching ANY deal for him, so why would then then trade him for less value when all they have to do is match whatever contract anyone gives to him?  The answer is they wouldn't.  You have to offer reasonable deals to get these players.  Take a look at what is being offered supposedly by the Warriors and the Rockets. 

Obviously we don't know exactly what any team is offering for sure but for example the Warriors are supposedly offering Lee who averages more points and rebound than Sullinger and Barnes who's a potential All star who definitely has more value than Bass for Love, when Bass but he's of no interest to Minnesota if they are getting rid of Love.

Then you have the Jazz trading away Hayward and the #5 pick for Bradley and the #6 pick and a backup PG.  Why would anyone do that when the best player in the deal by far is Hayward?

This deal isn't that terrible for Minnesota, but it's pretty bad for Utah.  They probably both decline.

I agree about Hayward.  What's the fixation with him?  He seems like a Matt Harpring caliber player.

If Exum falls to 5, and Utah is not crazy about him and we are, makes more sense to work out a deal with Utah to swap picks and give them some juice (either a 2nd round pick or a future protected first round pick).

I would not give them the 17th pick, though, as we can get a very good asset there.  The depth of this draft is unprecedented, and unlikely to be repeated for a long time, especially if the league imposes a 20 year old age minimum, which Silver has put at the top of his agenda.
