From ESPN: Sources: Sterling's wife to control Clips sale.

Props to Sterling for recognizing that he cannot possibly prevail in court.

Interesting.

Didn't really expect the bigot to go out with a whimper.

I'll be interested to see how his wife controlling the sale will work.  Also known as, I'll believe it when I see it.

Neither did I, even with the absolute futility of his case.

Well, that was unexpected.  Not with a bang but a whimper.  Good on Sterling in this one instance, he saved himself and a lot of other people quite a bit of time and money.  Though I suspect it's because his lawyers told him there was no plausible angle that could negate the order.

"Also - the NBA spent the past few days painstakingly explaining to Sterling just how much money he'd lose by suing to keep the Clips."

Maybe Sterling wants to be able to steer sale of the team towards a white buyer or at least a group that doesn't include Magic Johnson.

I think the Sterling's will take a long time, say they can't get a fair asking price, and hope that the controversy has died down so that they're not forced to sell in 6 months.

I suspect they won't find a "fair" asking price.  If they sell, it will cost hundreds of millions in capital gains taxes which would not need to be paid after it is passed down to their children.  If Shelly becomes the spokesman of the ownership and Donald falls to the background, this may all die down.

I think there are enough deep-pocketed potential buyers around the team that the Sterlings would have a very difficult time making a plausible case for not getting a fair price.  Some of those buyers would likely make their offers public to prevent such a move.

I m shocked.

Even though he would loose in the end .

The end could have been a long time coming .

He seems like the type to drag a deal like this out just .....just to show he can

If this report is fact it bodes well for the Clippers and NBA

how? Sterling bought the Clips for nothing back in the day, and the Clips are worth about a billion. Either way, he makes a profit out of this. He loses the team, but hey, he gets a crap ton of money for it

He is so crazy and looney .....no explaining some of his action or motives.

He needs a straight jacket

NBA simply institutes the vote then and has buyers already good to go that the Sterlings themselves negotiated with.

Yeah ,you missed my point...has zero to do with money today for his guy, he may not live another year .......he is all about power and control and having his way no matter what the status quo is.

Whenyour his age and health and rich beyond anything you can spend......it's not about the money, it's about power, his beliefs , legacy, and all the intangibles most of us will never consider as we are too busy trying to make money.
