While looking at the projected salaries of players on various teams, I noticed that Jeff Green is only locked up for next season. He has a player option for 2015-2016 of $9.2 million, but I'm not so certain that he takes it.
We spend a lot of time talking about Rondo trade ideas here, primarily because there is a good chance he could leave at the end of next season. But Jeff Green could potentially leave as an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season too. Whether you think Jeff Green is worth $9.2 million or not, let's assume there is at least one team out there who is willing to pay more than that. Shouldn't we be looking at potential trade options for him? If so, what can we realistically get back, and who would want him?
My opinion is that several playoff teams would really like to add Jeff Green to add scoring and defense as a 6th man off the bench. Indiana for example really needs bench help. Why couldn't we get a later first round draft pick and filler for Jeff Green (provided salaries match up)? While only a few teams may want Jeff Green in a trade, most teams value first round draft picks, which is why I really like them. They are a good form of currency in the NBA. Are you guys open to trading Green, and what do you consider a realistic return?
