What do you think Ainge will do now this summer?

Since the C's lost out on the top 3 AGAIN what do foresee Ainge doing to rebuild the team? With Rondo's new contract upcoming I think he'll go after Love to try and keep the ship afloat. Even with the possibility of both of them walking next off-season. I just don't see him throwing away the culture that was built up and starting over from scratch. Management couldn't even stomach a true tank this past season so going the Philly route isn't going to happen. Two other reasons for this thinking: Rondo is never going to get a fair return now and all those picks seem more valuable as trade chips.

This just seems like a risk Ainge would be willing to take because he can build around them if they let him.

Despite all the short-sighted hyperbolic fawning over every single player in the draft who might be available at 6 - none of whom will do anything but consign this franchise to a long-term rebuild that the ownership doesn't want - I am confident that Ainge is most intent on following the 2007 route as much as he can.

There will be a big offer made for Kevin Love, and I suspect an offer made for Asik as well.

If he can't land that help, I expect Rondo will be traded.

Trading down by itself is not the goal. You want to get a 1st rounder back as well, and they already have 9of those over the next 5 years so I don't think that will happen.

If Love doesn't happen Ainge may do nothing this summer. Really. Draft Smart Gordon or Vonleh, let Hump expire, and slog through another season. This is very possible.

I actually wrote about this back in, I think, February. I believe the Celtics will make two huge moves this summer and another pretty big one. It will take almost all of their current assets to make these happen:

The first domino is Love on draft night. Trading a package of something like Sullinger, #6 (drafted for Minnesota), the 2015 Clippers pick and their own 2015 pick. Not sure if the TPE can be used or if they'd have to come up with contracts, which would impact these subsequent moves. Maybe a cap expert can help with this?

The next domino is Asik. Trading #17, all of the non-guaranteed guys, plus Bass.

Finally, with these two in place, Ainge calls Phil Jackson and says "we'll give you Brooklyn's 2016 & 2018 1sts, the right to swap with them in 2017, Jeff Green and Kris Humphries" (signed to a similar deal as Bogans, with only the first year guaranteed. Anthony, who wanted Rondo on the Knicks, pushes for this by saying he'll bolt for nothing if the Knicks don't accept.

That gives the best distributing pg in the NBA not one, but two top 5 scoring options, a perfect 3&D two guard, and a great rim protecting big. With Love & Asik, they'd also have two of the best rebounders in the league.

In this scenario, they would also still have Olynyk, the MLE (Pierce?), and vet mins. That starting 5 would certainly be enough to entice some useful vets to come to Boston.

Well yeah, they could trade down to #9 from the hornets or any other team down lower in the lottery and get their first next year. That was implied

I would be shocked if we used our two picks and just trotted out the same team as last year.
