Kings put the #8 pick on the trading block

The Kings put the No. 8 pick in the draft on the trade block immediately after the lottery Tuesday night, league sources told NBA.com, clearly looking to add at least one impact veteran in an attempt to push into the playoff conversation next season rather than wait for another rookie prospect to develop.

The Kings have several needs in the aftermath of the 28-54 finish, most notably an upgrade on defense, adding dependable perimeter shooting and finding a playmaker point guard, whether or not Isaiah Thomas returns as a restricted free agent. Those could be addressed at No. 8 in the draft, but with the possibility of the kind of test of patience they just went through with Ben McLemore, the seventh pick in 2013.

Rondo for McLemore and the rights to the #8 works for me. We'd be guaranteed of getting a player in the tier that includes Gordon, Smart, and Vonleh, which is right before another drop off in the draft. Having the 6, 8, and 17 picks also allows Ainge with the opportunity of packaging picks to move up in the draft.

This is obviously dependent on a Love trade not coming to pass.

Not sure about that. The Kings have a new ownership and they'll look to be aggressive. Taking a leap of faith that Rondo will re-sign after playing with Cousins and Gay is a lot easier to do with the # 8 pick as opposed to them getting a top 3 pick.

They already tried well per rumors tried to make the trade. Rondo said no to the idea of the extension. Or no guarantees.

If the kings dont care extension or not then yeah thats a trade that could happen. I could see it going as far as rondo, bass and Ab (bc he and cousins are good friends from what I read) for mclemore, thompsom and 8th

Yup......DA is really under the gun now, after he screwed up the tank......and we are likely to loose Rondo or have to trade him as he will leave with no help.

I predict the worse,  Lakers get Love,   Rondo leaves ,  we take Smart and that just about finishes off the Celtics for a decade.

Danny should have unloaded the over paid bench players at mid season .

I think Danny is a good GM.  I'm not worried about the next decade.  There are too many assets, that by the way, Danny acquired.

If we aren't able to acquire Love or another similarly sought after player it puts our chances of re-signing Rondo in jeopardy, and with that comes the risk of him leaving via free agency for nothing.

I would argue that losing Rondo for nothing would hurt our team far greater than trading him for Smart, Vonleh, or Gordon (whichever is the last man standing at eight) and McLemore. Surely you'd agree.

At 8th thats where things really start dropping. Kings prob r not a fan of vonleh, dont need saric and dont think ennis can be a starting nba pg. Thats my thought

Yup.....all this is likely to be the case......6 th pick sucks too......I don't think stupid 6 th pick gets Love.....I hope I'm wrong .....but I doubt it.

The NBA has rigged this so the Draft is the only way all but a handful of teams can rebuild.."....now it's the same handful of suck teams that are in every lottery every year loading up players .....with teams like the Celtics stuck in the middle......finally the owners of the Sixers saw the light.....got rid of Collins and his band of over achieving bench players and start over with at least top young prospects.   NBA has forced this thinking .
