Rondo, #6, Wallace for #4 and Nelson

Yikes
Think Orlando would balk at taking on all that salary?

I honestly cannot believe that anyone would be willing to trade Rondo to move up two spots or even a few more.  Simply cannot imagine Ainge EVER considering that.  EVER.

Well if we wanted to dump Wallace's deal, field a team on the cheap and expedite the process of Rondo fleeing, it would make some sense.  Could draft Exum and build around him, Bradley, SUlly, Oly and our 2015 Top 5 pick... Perpetual Tank!

I believe Orlando has the cap space to absorb salary.

The question was what it would take to move into the Top #4... I Orlando would consider it if we offered up ROndo and the #6... they could take another big with the #6 pick.  Otherwise, I doubt they would drop out of the top tier for lowly pittance.

As much as it bothers you Rondo's said nothing about fleeing. It's pure fantasy at this point.

That's neither here nor there.  I'm not saying we should trade Rondo and the #6 for the #4... I'm just answering the question of what it would take to get into the Top 4.

#6 and a future pick is all it should take / all we should offer to get to #4. They only need their guy to get past Utah and they end up with the same player and an extra pick, which is likely considering they've been linked to Smart.

There is no top four.  There's a top three.

Dante Exum is not worth trading the sixth pick plus other assets for.  I am absolutely convinced that there are going to be a number of players in this draft picked after him who end up with considerably better pro careers.

We just need Danny to pick the right guys.

And I disagree with you entirely.

After Exum the next vest guard in the draft is Smart, and there is really no benefit (skill or physically) that Smart has over Exum.  Exum is far superior athletically,  has similar defensive ability, has similar scoring ability, has the same wealness with his jump shot,  but has far superior PG skills (passing, court vision, ball handling) and is both quicker (benefit at PG) and bigger (benefit at SG).

The only other guy you could argue is on par is Vonleh.  Nobody else outside top three is a threat on both ends of the court.

I thought it might work like that but I think it might take a bit more.  If the guy who falls is Embiid or Parker (I'm still convince Exum sneaks into the top 3 after individual workouts), a lot of people are going to come calling for 4.  I think 6, 17, and a future 1st gets it done.  I do that deal in heartbeat for Embiid, possibly even Parker.

definitely will involve Rondo. Especially if one of the top 3 (Parker/Embiid/Wiggins) drop, even more so

This ain't Lebron, Melo, or Durant.  I think you're overrating the top 4 in this draft.  None of these guys is can't miss.  If Smart is their man, it behooves the GM to trade down a couple of spots to get his man and pick up extra picks in the process.  Not to mention market rate will be determined by what the other offers are.

yes if we try to move up you would think we would use rondo and future picks.

The best way to get in the top 4? Have the worst record in the league. Automatic top 4, baby. :D

No one is trading out of the top 4 this year, though. I would be surprised if Utah traded their 5th pick too with Randle and Vonleh on the board. I may be down on Randle, but mostly because I see him as a horrible pick for the Celtics. But Utah, I can see them going with either Randle or Vonleh.

If we could do #6 + Sully for any top 4 pick I would be ALL over it

Unfortunately I don't think that would be enough.  You'd probably have to throw in the #17 pick at a minimum.

It is also conceivable that the Celtics could trade Rondo + future first rounders to move into the top 4, which I would be onboard with.  This would give the Celtics something like the #3 and #6 in this years draft.

But why give up Rondo, an accomplished star for a draft pick, no matter how good. You can't be assured how good the player will be,  I think the risk is just too high.

depends what direction DA wants to take. try to develop a couple picks now and keep rondo or trade rondo for a higher pick now....or trade both for picks or proven players. who knows.

a real commitment to tanking will get you in the top 4 of the draft guaranteed.
