#6 Aaron Gordon Boston Celtics (25 - 57) COLLEGE: Arizona HT: 6-9 WT: 220 POS: PF
The Celtics will likely shop this pick, though at No. 6 I am not sure exactly what they can get for it. They have been high on Gordon for a while, and I think this would be a very good fit for them. Offensively he is a bit raw, but I think his intangibles as a defender and energy guy will make up for a lot of that. He changes the game with his athleticism in ways that are hard to quantify.

#17 P.J. Hairston Boston Celtics (25 - 57) COLLEGE: North Carolina HT: 6-5 WT: 229 POS: SG
The Celtics need shooting. After shipping off Courtney Lee to Memphis, Avery Bradley remains the Grizzlies' only reliable 3-point shooter. Not only can Hairston stroke it from deep, he has an NBA body and should be more NBA ready than the average prospect selected at No. 17 -- a big plus for the Celtics.

Could definitely see both of these picks happening...thoughts?

Dannys list imo

1. Smart
2. Gordon/randle. Gordon over randle since we have ko, sully

At 17 I can see danny choosing hairston, harris , hood or wilcox. Or a pg that can shoot - ennis, napier

Yeah I was thinking Smart might be he pick now.

If he can't get Rondo any decent help .....then might as well trade Rondo for what you can get , he'll leave anyways.  Smart would be a decent guard to throw into another season of tanking with bunch of rookie and nobodies.

We don't even have a center .....no elite players .....we should sink straight to the bottom like a rock.

We ll be like Wizzards ..basically starting from scratch ......

One reason the East sucks ...is all the good new Talent is on the really    bad teams.

And no way to get the talent to Boston .

If we take Smart, I think he will be on the court the same time as Rondo, and not as a replacement.  Same would've been true of Exum.  Stevens ran two-point lineups at Butler, and more teams in the NBA are going towards that model.

If we can't move the pick, what are the odds we take Saric or Nurkic with the knowledge that they might not count against the cap for the next two offseasons, and when they do come over, they'll likely be ready to play?

Plus in trading them, we don't need to take back salary to match.

Ainge has already said he will be drafting the BPA.

More meaning two or three instead of zero?  ;)

I can think of last year's Nuggets with Lawson + Miller, This year's Suns with Dragic + Bledsoe, and last year's Knicks with Kidd and Prigioni... And that's all that's coming to mind right now, but I'm sure I'm missing a couple.

Would like to see Smart + Rondo on the Celtics at the same time, though, since I love two-point teams like that.

Nets with Williams/Livingston, Magic with Nelson/Oladipo, Mavs with Calderon/Ellis, Rockets with Beverly/Lin, Blazers with Willaims/Lillard

Some of those guys aren't true points, but it's always either due to a lack of shooting or lack of passing that holds them back. It's more aptly described as 'a point guard and another guard who can play the point in a pinch but you probably don't want him starting at the point next to a traditional 2 for one reason or another, and he may or may not be under 6'4'

But it is a trend. Exum admitted as much in one of his combine interviews. 'A lot of the teams see me playing in a 2 point guard system'.

That's GM speak 101.  Same thing new Dolphin's GM said before reaching bigtime to draft a 2nd round talent at right tackle with the #19 pick in the first round.

BPA is not always the best strategy because if he took Randle, he'd more than likely have to sell Sully or KO for pennies on the dollar.

NBA teams have trended towards SGs becoming more of a wing-type player than a guard-type player lately.  Instead of 2 guards, 2 forwards, 1 center being the typical roster makeup, it's usually 1 PG, 2 wings, 2 bigs.  Still nothing wrong with having a true "guard" at the shooting guard position though.

Agreed.  I think we have to trade out of the pick if the only players Ainge really likes are PFs.  Possibly the same regarding PGs.

me too, I'd love to see that. He could be what Danny always wanted Avery to be- a wing scorer that can play both positions and defend.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I be happy with these 2 players..

SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

highly expecting #6 to be traded.  if kept, I wouldn't be upset with these picks considering the talent expected to be available at those slots.  would be a little surprised with Hairston at this point unless his D is actually better than advertised

6. Boston Celtics: Noah Vonleh, Indiana, PF-C, 6-9, 247, Fr. Scout's take: "He's young [18 years old] and he has huge hands. He has a big body and he can shoot from outside, but he is not a great athlete."

17. Boston Celtics (from Brooklyn): T.J. Warren, North Carolina State, SF, 6-8, 220, So. Scout's take: "He's a lethal scorer, especially from midrange in. He has a great floater. An unproven defender who is not a high-level athlete."
