I mean if the headlines read that Love was coming to BOS, do you think Melo would want to join by demanding a sign and trade? Do you also think Phil Jackson would pull that offer if Ainge offered 2 of the Nets unprotected picks, and a few second rounders, with a future Celtics pick, and cap filler? The Nets picks could potentially be lottery picks, depending on how the Nets future looks like; and to be honest, it looks pretty bleak with Deron Williams possibly asking for his way out.

The only issue is also would the Rockets then refuse to give us Asik, if we got any of their dream prospective stars? Would DM hold a grudge at DA being able to pull off another blockbuster trade, and refuse to give us Asik? Cause obviously if we get Melo, there is no way Morey would let us get Asik. It pretty could mean that we might have to trade for a Center, or try to draft, seek for one in free agency.

How would a sign and trade with New York for a resigned Carmelo (at $20 mil a year) work?

Knicks aren't going to want to take back Gerald Wallace, unless Boston doubles the number of 1st round picks attached.

I would think so. Would be interesting what we give up to Minny if we land Love though. The TPE would be huge in getting Melo here if we didn't use it in the deal with Minny. Either way i think the TPE is a huge chip weather it goes to Minny Or NY, but yes i do think he would wanna come here.

A team of Rondo,Melo, and Love would make players take a discount to play here. If we could keep Hump and add a few players like a Center and a 6th man we would be top 3 in the east and make a push at the Finals in my opinion.

I dont think there would be enough assets or cap space to land Melo as well. However, with Rondo, Love and a couple decent role players in the fold, maybe they could make a run at Marc Gasol, Joakim Noah, or another star next summer.  ;D

I think Phil Jackson needs to make moves to win right away. I dont think future nets picks will get it done.

I don't think it'd work under the new CBA.

Even if it could I'm skeptical on whether it'd be wise. But I'm meh on Carmelo overall.

All speculation. We still have a treasure trove of draft picks to still use. I mean Danny Ainge didn't get all these picks to use them all. I think he was stockpiling them to either make another run, or possibly go on a full draft move like OKC if we land in top 3.

I don't think it'd work under the new CBA.

Even if it could I'm skeptical on whether it'd be wise. But I'm meh on Carmelo overall.

I know. Cap wise, I don't think it'll be a problem. We can always re-sign Bayless/Humphries to a couple extra million to match the trade offers.

The only way it'll happen is through a sign and trade.

I do think we have enough picks to land us Melo. The problem is thats a huge risk, we don't know if we'll have enough assets to bring in any great role players/bench. 2015/2016 might see players like Townson/Oakfor, and other talented big men, that could help the speedy recovery of the Knicks.

I think it would take less for us to pry Melo, but it'll be centered around how many picks, and what type of bad contracts we would be willing to take on.

Except, as a team whose payroll currently exceeds the luxury tax apron, New York cannot receive signed and traded players from another team, per the new CBA:

Starting in 2013-14, the team receiving the player cannot be above the "apron" ($4 million above the tax level) after the trade. A team above the apron can receive a player in a sign-and-trade if the trade reduces the team's payroll and the team finishes the trade below the apron.

Again, logistically, I'm skeptical how a sign and trade would work. Someone needs to show me how it gets done.

The TPE can't be combined with other salary to land Carmelo, and the projected apron for next season is around $75.5 million.

Both Love and Melo would be a pipe dream but if both did want to come to Boston they would need to take a page out of the Heat and sign for less.  I'm sorry but no player is worth 20 million! If Melo and Love both took 14-15 million a year, and that number because I think LeBron is the best in the world right now and he makes 16, Melo is no LeBron. So if they came here accompanied with Rondo and Jeff Green with Sully, watch out!

Yes the celtics should have more assets after a Love trade. but..... Again i dont think Jackson makes a trade for future picks. Let's say Boston sends 2 future nets picks: the 2016 unprotected and the 2017 right to the swappable pick. Then those players take 3 years to mature into something that might contribute in a significant way. You are asking Phil Jackson, the fans and the media to wait 4 or 5 years to see a return on a Melo trade.

I dont see that happening. I think Melo resigns, the Knicks play .500 ball next year, then in 2015 the knicks make big moves in free agency.

If the celtics dont have cap space to sign Melo, Jackson is smart enough to call his bluff.

Ah, I see. I totally forgot about that. Hmmm, that would be tough then.

Do you think there is any way for us to nab Melo?

Honestly, I just don't see Melo passing up tens of millions of dollars and the lead role in the world's biggest media market. I just can't believe he'd do that.

Jackson was hired to keep Melo. By sheer reputation alone, Jackson can convince him that there will soon be a suitable supporting cast to the Knicks to contend for a title.

Love and Anthony are going to cost someone 20 million per year, maybe even more in the case of Anthony. That is what top 10 players cost. *

Lebron is a very rare exception. I cant think of any other time when an MVP machine willingly took a deal well below his worth during his prime. Lebron is probably going to cost the Heat 20-25 million per year starting this summer.

*as a side note, i think Love is top 10 and is worth the big extension. Melo on the other hand, i dont think so. He is more like a 18 per year player, and will probably be in decline in year 4 or 5.

I'm with Lucky17, I don't see how it works.

We'd have to fit Rondo + Love + Melo under the apron and also make the Knicks and Wolves happy while being legal otherwise.

That's very tough.
