I don't get how so many posters assume that if we acquire Love we would get Melo also.  One rumor at a time please!  As another poster said, I don't like that combo anyway.  Melo is going to be more and more of a pure 4 as he ages.

I'm not on the boat. The boat is rudderless. It isn't seaworthy. It doesn't even float.

You're over-thinking this.

I'm curious as to how many CB posters would be willing to make a trade for Kevin Love, but wouldn't make the exact same trade for DeMarcus Cousins, and if any of them could defend that position.

Celtics fans blow my mind sometimes.

I would really like hear the alternatives...YOUR idea...whom YOU would trade and build a team around.  Please, you have the floor, dazzle me.

My personal assessment is that a team with Rondo, Melo, and Love (along with our great coach) is absolutely and positively a contender.
I'd rather have 'Melo at the 4 than Love, especially with someone like Asik at the 5.

Honestly, though, I'd rather hold off on either of them until we see who we have the opportunity to draft.

In a perfect dream scenerio, I would love to have all three with Rondo (it's doable though).  But choosing Asik over Kevin Love is absurd to me.

I prefer adding Asik/Love to adding Asiki/Melo or Love/Melo.

We'd need a scorer (our biggest need beside a center).  A team of Rondo, Asik, and Love is mediocre.

I would bring back Bradley with the expectation that he can add 2-3 ppg.  I'd keep Green as a placeholder while looking for an upgrade who is a good defender and a better three-point shooter.  I prefer Love's three-heavy offense to what Melo provides.

My plan would be to put together a team that can be a top five defense and at least an average offense.  Ideally, I would like Rondo, Asik, and three guys who have the potential to shoot 40% or better on threes.

So your plan is to keep uncle Snooze and keep an injury prone undersized Avery Bradley?  Those are your choices?  That is how you rebuild, huh?  Rondo, Asik, Green, Avery Bradley, and our pick are contenders...

Please excuse me for few minutes while I go and laugh my ass somewhere

Apples to oranges, isn't it? The initial premise that the same assets could return either of them seems flawed to me. Cousins should command a higher price tag.

One has a much longer track record of all-nba level play and also less clashes with coaches, opposing announcers, refs, well basically everyone.

I think I'd make a very similar deal for either of them, but Love is better and worth more.

That's part of why it's interesting -- Cousins should command a higher price tag, but my suspicion is that posters on here would give up more to get Love.

If you can't make it work (or at least aren't willing to try it) via acquiring a 25 year old all-nba caliber big man you should resign as a GM immediately.

Why should he exactly?

Cousins contract status being locked in is the only reason he should. But all trade scenarios for Love are still contingent on him agreeing to extend with a team. If Love is giving no assurances about reupping the C's should stay far away from trading their lottery pick for him.

We all saw how things worked out for the Lakers.....

If we get top 3 , unless we have assurance love resigns or we at worse get the wolves 13 pick the trade wont happen. Danny is not that dumb.

Wolves gm imo will accomodate the love resign issue bc otherwise they will be screwed also . They cant go Into the season with love as a distraction for the team. Only way love stays now is if they win a top 3 pick (not likely).

Celts and the lakers imo have the best chance to grab love

Yes, but Love has also said "Trade me." So Minnesota is now bargaining with less leverage, although suitors for Love should be able to build up a return for Minnesota.

Cousins hasn't said anything, and Sacramento views him (by all accounts) as a franchise cornerstone. So it should take a bigger offer to convince them to move Cousins.

Why would Love care if they jump into the top 3 of the lottery?

He wants to win now and I don't think they'll trade the pick for help if he's already one step out the door.

No GM can make it work.  That is just the reality.  My point is that we are going to need way more than Asik to be relevant again.  Asik is a good piece, don't get me wrong, but he's just that...a good piece.  Adding Asik wouldn't even come close to making us a contender

I wouldn't mind having him, providing we don't have to mortgage the future to do it.  he's nowhere near good enough to get this team back to contending but he would be a big piece that we could use.  definitely need another top player to go with him or 2-3 more very good players.

adding a Center that's a prime defender and rebounder (like Asik or Sanders) would't be enough.   Adding Kevin Martin as others have suggested would't be enough.   Jeff Green would have to be the worst starter on the team in that scenario if Love ends up being our best player.
