Am I?

Honestly guys the BEST CASE scenario I see this playing out is we get Love and then somehow get Melo. I am pretty skeptical if a team built around Rondo, Melo and Love could be better than a ECF appearance. I doubt that even happens because I feel like Melo is going to bolt to Chicago to join the limping Derrick Rose and DPOY Noah.

I also don't think the Love trade is even close to the KG trade, he's an offensive player who plays zero D and really just seems like a 2nd tier star to me. I def don't want to give up a top 3 pick for this guy, top 5? potentially if Exum is gone, but not a top 3 pick...Love just doesn't really get me excited and neither does the thought of Rondo/Melo/Love get me THAT amped.

Yup.

Celtics fans blow my mind sometimes.

I would really like hear the alternatives...YOUR idea...whom YOU would trade and build a team around.  Please, you have the floor, dazzle me.

My personal assessment is that a team with Rondo, Melo, and Love (along with our great coach) is absolutely and positively a contender.
I'd rather have 'Melo at the 4 than Love, especially with someone like Asik at the 5.

Honestly, though, I'd rather hold off on either of them until we see who we have the opportunity to draft.

In a perfect dream scenerio, I would love to have all three with Rondo (it's doable though).  But choosing Asik over Kevin Love is absurd to me.

Not in the boat.

No one, 1-4, Embiid, Parker , Wiggins, Exum is guaranteed to be what Kevin love is at age 25. Only Kevin Love is, and that's more than good enough for me.

I'm praying that we get 1-4. I think 1-4 almost guarantees us Love, if that's what we want, because of all the other assets we have.

My biggest fear is that the Fakers get lucky and we don't and they grab Love by virtue of their lottery luck, because they don't have much else to offer.
We can't get the fourth pick.

We can have picks 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8

Time for a reality check.

We'll be lucky if the guy we draft this year, even if it's in the top 3, turns out to be just as good as love.   Embiid could be a complete bust and Wiggins and Parker could be more Michael Beasley than Michael Jordan.  And even if they turn out great, it's going to take a few years for them to develop.  How much of Rondo's prime do you want to waste?

And while Love and Rondo probably aren't enough to do more than challenge for the ECF, having Love and Rondo makes it so much easier for Boston to attract more talent.  If we're giving up Sully and a top 5 pick in this draft, I can't imagine it would take more than salary filler and, AT MOST, two future 1sts.  That still leaves us with multiple 1st over the next 5 years, Green, Bass, KO and the trade exemption to try and land more stars.

I mean, Rondo/Love/Melo/Asik isn't as sexy as KG/Pierce/Ray, but it would easily be a top 4 team in the East and could be better depending on what you can put around that core.

I really like the player, but he isn't defensively responsible, and I can't picture him leading a team to a title. Great piece though. Not sure I'd give up the farm.

Oh, yeah, not what I meant to imply -- definitely no interest in Asik without either player.

I do think 'Melo and Love are relatively redundant on the same team, though.

Well then I guess we'll have to resort to fisticuffs.

Tommy point!

I'd much rather return to contention sooner rather than wait years for "potential to develop."

I've said this in another thread. I'm a huge fan of Kevin Love, but I would really like to stick the rebuild and keep our picks + Sully. Don't see Love/Rondo duo winning a championship anytime soon. Would like to test our luck in the lottery and go forward with the young guys. I'm on the trade Rondo and rebuild through the draft boat. Don't see Love having the same impact as KG when he first came here. Nor do we have that third star like we did in Ray Allen. Or a superstar in place like we did with Pierce. People look at 2007 and think "hey we can do it again" but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I'm not sure why anyone seriously believes that Ainge is going to try to draft his way out of this mess on the floor - or with J.R. Giddens, JJ Johnson and Flab Melo in your minds, why you'd want him to.

The picks were acquired to move. That should be obvious, as should the ownership's desire to rebuild ASAP. They were never going to try to draft their way out of this, because drafting your way to a title rarely if ever works.

No, instead we should go all in on trading for Ricky Rubio, right?

What farm are you giving up though ?  Nobody in this draft can guarantee you the talent Love guarantee's.  If the deal is out there, available, you have to pull this trigger.  Landing a talent at 25 years of age of this magnitude is like somebody just giving you a guaranteed player in this draft.

You have to take the guarantee over the guess all day.

I would bring back Bradley with the expectation that he can add 2-3 ppg.  I'd keep Green as a placeholder while looking for an upgrade who is a good defender and a better three-point shooter.  I prefer Love's three-heavy offense to what Melo provides.

My plan would be to put together a team that can be a top five defense and at least an average offense.  Ideally, I would like Rondo, Asik, and three guys who have the potential to shoot 40% or better on threes.
