Pierce talks trash too much, in a way that motivate his opponents to win. Remember that 'we aint come back to LA' in the G2 of 2010 finals? Lakers were so p---ed and took the G3 with their 120% effort. This time, it is reported that Pierce again said something to Lebron after the Nets won G3. Surprise surprise, Lebron erupted and scored 49 tonight. Paul has his own philosophy on this trash talking thing, but in hindsight I'd guess it's still better to avoid motivating the opponents.

Yep, Pierce is responsible for LeBron scoring 49 tonight.

Pierce's trash talking has always been part of what I enjoy about his game.

There may be some truth to what the OP is saying, but two facts remain: 1) Pierce is the only solid all-around contributor for the Nets right now; and 2) Brooklyn had plenty of chances tonight, and has only itself to blame for this series being essentially over.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

The Nets looked their age tonight. Old and tired. That did them in, not Pierce's trash talking.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
What your basically saying is Pierce should keep his mouth shut and refrain from poking the bear. If your scared to provoke a reaction, your just scared period. Miami is going for the kill either way and I think Pierce was just keeping the Nets on their toes with some added pressure.

I think the loss motivated Lebron more than anything.

Do you feel that way about Larry Bird back in his playing days?

Remember the 2002 ECF---C's came back and beat the Nets after being down like 24 points after 3 Quarters in game 3...?

Post Game news conference--PP says, "I don't know how they can come back from that defeat"....Nets win the next THREE games---C's out.....Always hated PP for that idiotic statement.

Agreed.  He's one of the last remaining trash talkers in the game.

Yep, Pierce is responsible for LeBron scoring 49 tonight.

I mean he usually averages 10 a game right?

I think Larry Bird though was actually able to back it up.

The OP brings up a good point.

Nothing wrong with a little swagger.

However, the problem is I think either Pierce doesn't know when to pick his spots OR he just opens his mouth against superior players with statements/comments that he can't back up.

More often than not, trash talking always comes back to haunt you, doesn't matter what team you're on.

These were the two points going through my head as well. I love the fact that he trash talks, and there are definitely places where you can do it throughout the game....But sometimes its too much.

Pierce, and more so KG, got to a point with the C's where they would over board trash talk and not be able to back it up. It got frustrating to watch sometimes. However, it is still a part of Pierce's game I've always enjoyed...

The "buries it right in Harrington's face!!" is the holy grail of Pierce trash talk moments for me.
