You first resign rondo then trade rondo  with Brooklyn's first round pick and a second round pick. you then draft a point guard  in the draft. The reasons to do this are you get a younger star to build around. harden has more potential to be a bigger star then rondo.  the celtics also don't lose as much because they get a top ten point guard to replace rondo which will hurt but not as much as drafting Arron Gordon and sitting and waiting.  The reasons Houston does it, they recently got there butts kicked by the trail blazers when on paper they look better so now they are wondering what is wrong. With this trade they would have rondo, parsons,Lin at SG and Dwight Howard with a 1st rounder for the SF, not to mention the great bench they all ready have.

Nope.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
So [like others I am sure], I am a bit confused.

We are trading a first and Rondo for Harden and then trading Green and a first for Monroe?
While not necessarily the best articulated thread lead, I can get on board with this, in theory, but would insist on keeping our lottery pick this year. I don't want to lose Rondo, but if we are going for a rebuild to youngerish players, then it makes some sense. Great SGs are more difficult to attain than great PGs in today's NBA.

Nope.

second that, nope^2

Let me be clearer -- I'm not saying I wouldn't love to get Harden for Rondo or anything like that.  I'm just kinda saying "Nope" to the whole proposal (and the way it's presented -- i.e. confusingly) rather than breaking it down.

I was just thinking about this. Were Huston is calling for Rondo once they can, who are thy going to offer that makes it worth while for DA.

It's also known that Huston is interested in Melo. And if they have Rondo, gives them an edge. But they can't afford, Rondo,Harden,Melo and Howard with the new CBA if they want a bench.

I have a feeling that Huston will try to work out a S&T with NY for Melo to be able to afford him, and that means Lin or Asik is used, or even both. Linsanity back in NY!!! :P

So in order to get Rondo, Harden would also have to be involved. Not necessarily to Boston, but part of one of the deals. Also Parson would most likely be out, he plays the same position that Melo plays, and I'm not sure that he can play full time at the 2.

We could give up Rondo, Green, AB,  and Bogans for salary dump. It would be nice to talk Huston into taking Wallace for their back up SF, but that might take giving up a pick. Might have to give a pick to NY.

This also would mean Jackson has decided to strip the team and start over. They might want some expiring contracts, which would be Asik and Lin.

It's hard to tell what to do. I wish they would do Free agency before the draft, it would make things a lot easier.

No way the Knicks go for that.

Knicks deal Melo and Shumpert and receive Green and Lin???

I think if that ever happened, NYC would riot MSG.

Suddenly, Chris Babb for Lebron doesn't seem so unreasonable ;)

exactly and also to say Lin would be a starting SG on any contender is laughable... Look they can trade Asik and another player to get another good player plus with Parsons they will be pretty good

Shump is a knuckle head...no way phil jackson keeps him

Melo could easily walk away and leave knicks for nothing.

Green is a poor mans melo and they get lincanity back while they completely blow it up so phil can build team the right way.....they have no draft pick and this gives em #18 in a deep draft plus prly next years clippers or netspick ..which could be a lottery pick.

All that sounds better than melo walkin away for nothin

this would make the trade for rondo more realistic.

new york would do it because we would offer them something they don't really have, Draft picks a 1st and a second round. Melo is most likely gonna walk so this will at least get them something in return.

So, the celtics line up would look like (assuming we draft Marcus smart in the draft)
smart/ bayless-1
Harden-2
Wallace-3
Sullienger/olynyk -4
Humphris/Asik

Not a fan of trading Rondo and even though I like Harden I dont think Id care to see him in Celtics green.

So if Rondo is moving to Houston I offer this deal. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lvf9bkn

Rondo and Bass and # 17, future Nets first

Parson, Beverly Asik Lins contracts # 25

I then try and attempt this deal. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mnschou

Sully, Bradley (s+t), Wallace for salary filler, lotto pick, Clippers unprotected, houston # 25

for

K.Love

Trade the unguaranteeds of Johnson, Babb, Expiring of Anthony a future first for Sign and trade for Marion

Sign Thabo to a 3 mil a year deal. Sign Okafor to the MLE sign Steimsa to a minimum sign Butler to a minimum

Beverly/Lin/Pressey
Green/Thabo
Parsons/Marion/Butler
Love/Olynyk
Asik/Okafor/Steimsma/Fav

14 players at roughly 62 million (give or take a couple mil here or there). Lin expires along with Asik and we can resign Asik, Love, Parsons in 2015. Turns us into a contender with a young core and great vets on the bench and in the locker room....Hmmm, I actually kind of like this.
