Danny has historically de-sleazed and de-knuckleheaded the roster.

This wouldn't make any sense at all based on Danny's history.

Way too much to give up. If josh smith is incoming then Gerald Wallace must be outgoing.

The salaries match and I think it is an intriguing move. It does help Detroit in that Smith's big salary is chopped into two smaller ones along with the fact that Bogans can be cut immediately for salary relief. It also simply moves Smith who is not going to fit in with The Pistons.

For Boston it is a gamble. There is a lot of money tied up in Smith but when he plays at his natural SF he is outstanding. Additionally he would certainly benefit from Stevens' motion offense and playing with his best bud Rondo. He also gives the Celtics a semblance of a rim protector and would most likely be an interesting counterpoint to either Olynyk or Sullinger regardless if one or both are on the floor with him.

Getting Smith gives Boston versatility without completely handcuffing them payroll wise. (I would not re-sign Humphries if this deal were made) We can put varied lineups on the floor and would be better suited for the kind of offense Stevens likes to run. It is risky certainly but makes the team better.

To me as Charles Barkley would say, "It's a terrible move".  We don't need the 4th PF on our roster (Bass, KO and Sully being the other 3) and that's exactly what Smith is.  That's why he hasn't worked out for Detroit.  He isn't a SF.  We would be trading our only SF for another PF.  Now to me if you want to go after Monroe by offering Green + now you've got something...

yikes. Smith is a severe liability on offense. Any hope there once was that his chucking tendencies could be coached out of him, should now be put to rest. He chucked up 265 3 pointers last season-- at 26%. He also set a career low 2p% of 46%. If you think his coaches haven't been telling him to cut it out, you must have an extremely low opinion of the Pistons coaching staff. This guy would be OK if he would just stop shooting altogether, but still he would lack a natural position as he is small for the 4 and cannot spread the floor well enough to play the 3.

I do, and I highly doubt they did anything to discourage Smith from acting like a 3, since that's where they played him for the majority of his minutes last season.

Haha nice...I fixxed the spelling on that Barkley quote for ya though.

And yeah, I agree that the last thing this team needs is another PF. That's what kind of threw me off with the OP....SF is Smith's "natural position"?? He played basically his entire career at PF in Atlanta...and for good reason- He plays his best basketball at the 4 spot. When Smith cools out with jacking up all the perimeter shots, he is a heckuva player.
But obviously a good SF needs to hang out on the perimeter and shoot 3 pointers consistently. That's why IDK what Detroit was thinking, playing Smith at SF. Everyone knew that was a bad idea before they signed him.

This trade would leave a gaping hole for us at the SF position with Green gone. And I want no part of a team where Gerald Wallace is the designated starter at SF. That is wayy too important of a position to trade away your starter without finding an equal or better replacement.

Even if Ainge were able to unload Bass to make room at the PF position, a Green for Smith trade still wouldn't be a good idea without having a replacement SF in place first. Not to mention the fact that a PF lineup of Smith, Sully, Olynyk is still very redundant. All 3 of those guys are way too talented to be playing 3rd string PF.

Smith at the 4 is a borderline All-Star. He was played out of position all year with the Pistons trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. That's why we can buy low on him now. Him running the break at the 4 with Rondo feeding him will be a thing of beauty.

I'm all for getting Smith, as we can buy low on him as well as Asik, and then use them to lure Melo. Rondo/Melo/Smith= the Oak Hill Crew.

Rondo/Melo/Smith/KO/Asik is a good core to contend with. Keep the 17th this year to get a SG.

No thanks. The thought of getting Josh Smith makes me want to throw up for a bit. Seriously, what is the big fascination with this guy? Hey why not trade all of our assets for Rudy Gay while we're at it?

I too cannot fathom why there is such interest in Josh Smith here.  The Pistons must be desperate at this point to get out from under his contract.
smith will be traded but i seriously hope not to the celtics
he needs to get on a team and be a very bad shot selection version of blake griffin

As much as i dont Asik, if we keep sullinger somehow in that , and the 17th pick, we are a championship contending team.

Josh smith is exactly what Kelly olynyk  needs next to him, So on offense kelly plays the 3 and on defense Kelly plays the 4. Which is whats best for kelly. If we have sullinger, a Lineup of

Sully, Smith, Kelly, and Melo with rondo, is absolutely dangerous. Idk about defense though lol. And I highly doubt we will be seeing this.
