I'd rather spend less than $5 million a season on Mozgov than just shy of $15 million a season for Hibbert.

If I'm paying that much to a center, he needs to be a double double guy with a high field goal percentage and elite rim protection, or a 18-20 point per game scorer.  Hibbert is neither, and his success seems way too matchup dependent to me for him to make that much money.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I think those defensive numbers for Mozgov flatter him.

I mean, when Mozgov was not on the floor, the Nuggets were trotting out some combination of JJ Hickson, Faried, A.Randolph, D.Arthur as their center / big man combination. None of those guys are competent / adequate options at center. None of the size/length + defensive ability required to play the position.

So yeah, Mozgov's on/off stats should look pretty great ... but they wouldn't look so good on another team.

I am very wary of Hibbert. The first half of this season was the first time i started to believe he might be a good player/investment.

I'll take Mozgov for less dough.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Hibbert is just owed too much money for us to seriously consider it...

If Hibbert fails or completely blanks out, then that is a 15 million dollar player you're paying for.. No thanks!

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
If the OP's intent was to show that two players with completely different reputations are actually quite similar, then nice job.

Before the season started, Hibbert was the obvious choice, but it is interesting to see how much Mozgov progressed and how little Hibbert was able to. I mean, all things being equal, I definitely take Hibbert, but when taking into consideration their contracts, it's hard not to take a flier on Mozgov.

can I say neither?  I would have taken Mozgov on a short term deal at low money if KG and Paul were still here.  But they aren't so I'll pass on both

Roy Hibbert, along with George patrolling the perimeter, was the anchor for one of the best defenses in the last 20 years. He's an elite rim protector and a good post defender. He lead the league in opp. FG% at the rim, was 4th in bpg, and was 5th in fewest opp. FGM at the rim. He would likely make our defense elite. So yes, I'd take him over Mozgov.

Yes, you may say neither. I'd take either at a discount but hold out hope for something better, ideally in the form of Embiid.

2 rebounds and 4 fouls in 12 minutes = roy hibbert? not a playoffs caliber center

His performance last year would disagree with you.

He is indeed not in great form right now, but to say he's not a playoff caliber Center is stretching it a little too far. Especially when he doesnt match up well with Antic, who stretches the floor, leaving him out of the paint area where most of the rebounds are happening.

Again, I'm not making excuses for his bad play, he has to play better. But he's shown he can be a difference maker.
