Wouldn't surprise me if Doc ended up as part of a new Clippers ownership group here once the dust settles. Already there's talk of Magic looking into putting such a group together.

Yeah Magic's making a strong push towards having first dibs on the possible sale for the Clippers.

Which, really, would be perfect -- especially if the Clippers continue to be the better Staples Center franchise well into the future.

Here's the thing, though.   If the NBA "forces" Sterling to sell the Clippers, why the heck would he sell the franchise to Magic of all people?  Wouldn't Magic be the last guy that Sterling would sell the team to after all that's gone down in the past 48 hours or so?  Wouldn't Sterling see Magic as one of the major source of his current problems? (Sterling's POV, not mine although projecting a bit here).

If Sterling is forced to sell the team, wouldn't he probably want to sell it to the highest bidder, even if it was Magic's group?

Quite possibly but, at the same time, would you sell to someone you despise and who you might seen as a big cause of your problems?  Would you give him the ultimate satisfaction of taking over your team that you have been forced to sell?

Just throwing it out there.

Well, assuming he WAS 'forced to sell' (or just for whatever reason decided to sell), ultimately, final choice of buyer ends up in the hands of the NBA because the NBA gets final say on who can own an NBA franchise.

Witness the recent Sacramento Kings sale which ended up going to the local ownership group pulled together by Kevin Johnson instead of the arguably better funded group that was going to move the team to Seattle.   The Maloofs did not get final say on who ended up buying the team.

The NBA in the end there seemingly opted for the "won't move the team" buyer over pure financial considerations.

No!
Pitino
If we're gonna think about doing that, just re-hire Tommy as Head Coach so he can die on the court while yelling at the refs or imploring his team to "Run! Run! Run!" You *know* Tommy deserves to go out with a blaze of glory! That's the Celtics Way!

exactly, the NBA has to approve the sale.  I don't think Sterling would get to pick and choose

The sarcasm is noted but if Doc wanted to come back and bring CP3 and Blake with him, by all means!!

Can't help but think about those hopeful buyers up in Seattle. I'm sure the Clippers won't move, but it would be interesting. . . it'd be great to have the Sonics back.

Hopefully, a sale and full Sterling ouster from the NBA is the resolution here, and the Clippers can embark on a new and better era.

If Doc Rivers brings back CP3, Blake, and DeAndre Jordan, and helps us win a ring, then all is forgiven. ;)

Why don't we just disband the Clippers and hold a contraction draft between the teams that missed the playoffs this year? Same odds as the normal draft.

Lol... Can you imagine if you missed out on a top 2 pick in that draft?  Oh man.  Better yet, just add the Clipper players to the same draft pool as the rookies...  then I think we'll be having some fun.

Since I'm clearly bored... let's imagine that for a second.  Let's say that by drafting a player, you're stuck with his current contract, but you don't need to worry about having cap space... so if you want, you could select Chris Paul, but his 20mil per year salary would be added on top of your existing pay roll (potentially facing luxury tax penalties and all that stuff)...

Does Blake go #1 based on age and then CP3 #2?  Where does DeAndre Jordan go in that draft... considering you could either have him and his 10 mil per year... or select a rookie and keep him under rookie contract for a few years.  That's interesting.  You'd prob take Wiggins, Parker and Embiid over DeAndre just because of the contract, right?  Then you're like... OPtion 1:  Solid center who is already proven he can put up 13 boards and 2 blocks while making 10 mil a year... Option 2:  Dante Exum on a rookie deal.   Anyways... considering we're looking at likely the #6 pick this year, I think i'd like our chances better this year if the Top 7 included CP3, Blake, Wiggins, Embiid, Parker, Exum and Jordan.

Ridiculous scenario, but fun to think about.

Go home, you're bored.
yup

May 20th will come soon enough. Then we'll actually have something to talk about..

22 more days...... And then we face our ping pong fate!

Call me crazy but, I think we'll get the #3 pick.
I think the odds will be in our favor...

Top 15 looks like this I think:

Quote
Doc Rivers said he isn't sure what he would have to hear from Sterling to make him want to return next season.

"Don't know yet," Rivers said when asked if there were things he needed to hear from Sterling after an audio tape surfaced of Sterling purportedly making racist remarks to his girlfriend V. Stiviano. "I'm just going to leave it at that."

Forget this Stevens kid.  Let Doc quit on the racist Clippers and bring him back home to Boston.  Sign Pierce with the MLE.  Have KG retire and come on board as an assistant coach.  Ray's a free agent too... might as well bring him back.  Forgive and forget.  Let's see if we can dump Wallace contract on OKC for Perk's contract.  Let's just bring the whole family back together + draft Wiggins/Embiid/Parker, trade Sully + picks and filler for another all-star... maybe Blake or CP3 will demand a trade out of there... might as well snatch them up... Celtic Pride old and new.

What's Toine up to these days?  See if he wants to be the new Lucky mascot.

EL OH EL

Doc back??? NO THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LET'S GO CELTICS!

After the drama he made when he wanted out, i don't think management will want him back.

DA and Wyc are all in on Stevens. I too am also. BS is now implementing his own culture and imprint on the team. Lets give him a shot.

I think he was being facetious and silly.
LET'S GO CELTICS!
