I worry that every year I get overly interested in the draft and over value later round picks but this year does seem exceptional.

Looking at draftexpress there is a very nice crop of player projected going end of 1st - mid 2nd. I left out foreign players because I have very little incite into them. (exception is I included Inglis)

Guards

#25 Payton - long athletic PG super productive despite outside shot 
#28 LaVine - ton of potential but raw, elite athlete who can shoot
#29 Napier - every one knows him
#30 Burton - can score, great frame, great length, great athlete
#41 Carson - small but dynamic high energy player
#48 R Smith - has the makings of a great backup PG, can pressure call and score
#49 N Johnson - dynamic offensive player, could be a steal if he can play NBA PG
#50 Christon - highly ranked preseason, alot to like in this late of a pick

Out of those 8 only Carson (due to size) doesn't have a reasonable shot at starting in the NBA. Also with the exception of Carson I would not be shocked if any one of those guys went mid first round.

Wings

#26 Early - looked great vs Kentucky, needs to prove he can be full time SF
#27 Daniels - had great tournament, great 3 and D potential
#45 Robinson III - potential is at lottery level but production was not
#47 Dinwiddie - quick, good range, and good size
#49 Inglis - only 18 and huge for SF even played some point forward in france, great defender
#NR Jordan Adams - great frame, quick hands (alot of steals), productive at only 19
#NR Markel Brown - great athlete, developing as a scorer, high energy, shannon brown like?

All 5 of these guys have great physical profiles for NBA wings.

Bigs

#31 McGary - should be excellent rebounding big if healthy, similar to Kanter?
#37 Austin - spencer hawes potential, could be a stretch 5, can play perimeter and block shots
#38 Young - explosive version of Joel Anthony, will be great defensive big off bench
#41 Powell - nice size at PF, very smooth and skilled
#52 Stokes - less skilled sully, is elite rebounder
#54 Jefferson - very athletic active PF
#56 Birch - athletic defender, great shot blocker
#58 McAdoo - was very highly ranked, cant believe he is this low, good at alot great at nothing

I find it hard to believe that at least 25% of these guys listed wont have solid NBA careers.

This list makes me wonder if the Cs wont be better served if they trade down from #17 with say Utah for #23 and #35. With the late teens being so wing dominated the Cs may find better value and the same level of players at both of these picks. I would Ingilis and Nick Johnson at these picks. Or do all potential and take Lavine and Austin (not high on him but little risk at #35)

Another thought besides the trading down is for ainge to buy one of philly's FOUR second round picks. I am sure they would be willing to part with one or more of them.

Firstly, you left off Bogdonovich who is going to be a quality player.  Anyways, maybe on draft day we could trade down, but if you rank the top 17 players, there is a chance you will get one of:

Aaron Gordon (extremely unlikely, but maybe he falls to 12 and we can realistically trade up)
Saric (unlikely, but possible.  He is also a trade up candidate)
Nurkic (also unlikely, but a little more possible at 17)
McDermott (he could have a bad combine)
Gary Harris (I have seen him as low as 15 on mocks)

With consolation prizes of:
Tyler Ennis
Nik Stauskas
James Young
TJ Warren

After that I kind of agree with you.  I would prefer to trade down for the Jazz's 23rd pick (via Warriors) and their 2nd round pick (5th overall in the 2nd).  We could get Bogdonovich and Ainge's choice of those guys left.  That wouldn't be terrible.

I left Bogdonovich off because frankly I only know of him what I have read on draft express. Thats why I listed Inglis as the only Euro because I watched him in hoop summit and have read about him in a few deffernt sources.

My point of this post wasnt to debate trading down but rather to show the late talent. I agree basketball is all about maximizing the most talent in the fewest player(I.E rather have 5 great players then 10 good). With that the Cs are best suited keeping the 17th if DA views the play as superior the everyone left in the draft but if he falls in the deep tier that will likely make up the bottom half of the 1st. Then trading may raise the odds of the Cs adding a usable player.

If there's a good player available at 17, then you take him.  Quality over quantity in the NBA draft.  However if the guy at 17 is about equal to about 6 other guys, then it makes sense to trade down and acquire more picks.

Also as someone mentioned, Philly is probably pretty open to selling one of their 4 second round picks

There's so many risky but exciting prospects with upside in this draft. Most of them won't pan out but I really wish we had more picks.

As for Phili and all their second round picks,

 I had a thought, How good could Russ SMith be if given a 6th man role on the 76ers sharing the back-court with MCW? He could guard the 1 play the 2 and just run the court, alot of potential for success in the right situation for a 2nd rd pick.

I'd want McGary (who can actually play Center!) or Napier. McGary would've gone top-20 a year ago and had Celtics fans drooling with his play in the tournament. I hope DA finds a way to grab one of them, but NBA teams know this is a better-than-usual second round. I don't think teams will be able to buy 2nd rounders as easily as they have in the past.
