If everything stays as is and the Pistons pick is at #8. How about the following?
Rondo
Wallace
for
Jennings
#8 Pick
Jerebko (expiring deal)
Charlie V. (signed to a similar S&T deal like Bogans, where the years after the 1st are non-guaranteed)
We get rid of Wallace's deal and replace them with expiring deals. Get a good lottery pick (Ford currently has Smart going #8). I'm not the biggest Jennings fan, but his contract is reasonable (8M) and only runs for 2 more seasons. Plus, I feel confident that Stevens could improve his game/trade value considering what he did for Crawford.
Well, Jerebko is expiring only if he declines the 2014-15 player option on his contract, and CV can't be signed to a new deal until July. So, that player taken at #8 couldn't be moved until weeks after Draft Night.
So, you're basically using Rondo to unload Wallace's contract and get Smart and Jennings?
Yes. Mannix was quoted as saying that talking to GM's across the league the cost of moving Wallace would be a future 1st rd pick, so it's not as though the Wallace dumping is anything to scoff at. I think that's excellent value and allows us to have major cap room in the summer of 16. That would mean adding a major piece(s) to go along with Olynyk, Sullinger, 3 lottery picks (safe to say we're in the lottery next year), and the #17 pick this year.
Wasn't scoffing, was asking.
Jennings' contract is as long as Wallace's, although a few million cheaper each year.
Rondo's expiring would be traded for Jerebko's expiring (he can only be traded if he opts in for next year), plus CV's new filler deal. Probably a few more million saved for that year.
You'd make some modest financial gains, and get the #8 pick. It still leaves me lukewarm, though.
