I hate to say it but the personnel changes have buried this team.  It's not Vogel's fault.  He's a good coach.  And Larry is a good exec, but this has blown up in his face.

Bringing in Turner and Bynum were gambles and both of them came up snake-eyes.

Turner and Bynum are the least of their issues.  Their two max level stars (George and Hibbert) have fallen off a cliff.  You can only go as far as your alpha dogs take you.

The trades definitely upset chemistry.  I've never been a fan of trading team leaders, especially in the middle of the season, and you're seeing the effects of that in Indiana.

Bynum is just a cancer, and Turner has apparently upset the volatile Stephenson.  Hibbert and George can't lead, and there's no great calming voice in the locker room right now.

If the alpha dogs couldn't handle it then they were never alpha dogs.  Bynum has yet to play a single minute in the post season and Turner has played the grand total of 38 minutes in 3 games.  The Pacers aren't losing this series because of Bynum and Turner, they are losing this series because Hibbert has been awful and George has been less then stellar (though not awful).  It also doesn't help that the Hawks have been money from 3 point land and they are running and gunning like the best college teams (6 players have at least 3.7 three point attempts a game and another is at 2.7).

His in-season moves this year have turned out to be poor ones, though.  Adding Bynum, Turner and Allen for nothing but cash, second rounders and the hobbled Granger is a good move on paper.  However, chemistry is a delicate thing, and replacing Granger in the locker room with Bynum and Turner messed things up.

So if the moves don't work, you call a spade a spade.

Honestly you're probably right. That was probably the lynchpin. I believe Hibbert said he missed Granger. Stephenson would probably have kept his pants on without the trade.

And no sarcasm intended. For us, this year, trading J-Craw and C-Lee killed the team imo. The Perk trade probably hurt morale in the same way.

I was going to say the same. Strong rumour when Bynum got the sack from Cavs regarding sleeping with an asst. coaches wife.

The other story was Bynum heaving shots up every time he touched the ball in practice. Even if he was 80 feet from the basket. I believe this one to be true.

Tough to say.  Did Hibbert really only score four points and get two(?!?!?!?) rebounds last night because Bynum is in the locker room?  Because Granger is gone?  Right now, Hibbert is playing like he did his first couple years at Georgetown when John Thomspon labeled him "The Big Stiff".  I mean, clearly the Pacers have fallen off a cliff, and that's someone's fault, but I'm not sure if it's Bird's, Vogel's, the players, or there are some hidden injuries.  It's fine to bash Stephenson, but he's the only Indy starter who showed up last night.

I think this team is suffering under the weight of its own expectations.
