All the more reason to try and trade Green this summer.

More I think about it, more I like the idea of Green + two 1sts for Monroe.
depends on what the two firsts are.  I mean if it is 18 (or whatever) and the Clippers pick, sure (though I don't think Detroit does that).  If it is like 6 and a future pick, then Boston won't do that.

Yeah, I'm thinking the BRK pick and the LAC pick.  I'd offer a S+T of Bradley, too.  I think Detroit would consider it if they aren't getting many high level offers for Monroe.

I'm not big on trading Green because, despite what people may think, there are a lot worse SFs around the league, but I'd be 100% in support of that kind of deal.  Two #1s are a lot to give up for an unproven player like Monroe but what's the point of having a jillion 1st round picks if you're not going to use them to outbid other teams?

Oh how times change...

I remember a year or so ago Bradley was rumored in a deal that would of brought Cousins to Boston and there were a large group of people against the deal touting Bradley as an "elite" prospect.

Easy to say now "yeah, well whoever said that was dumb."

C'mon guys, Bradley isn't a bad player and if the price is right, we should be happy to have him back.

Who else was in the proposed deal - Rondo and our two firsts this year? I am sure DA likes AB, but he has always had an affinity for Cousins. He would and should give up pretty much whatever SAC desires to add him to the Cs.

Remind you, this was over a year ago and the ship has more than sailed, but this rumor was not received well here at CB and I fondly remember it.

I like Bradley, but he is to small to be a starter on a regular basis. I wouldn't offer more than 6 or 7 mil a year. He would be great coming off the bench, especially if we can draft wiggins, Harris, Hood or Stauskus.

I certainly agree with this.

If Bradley is one of your 3 or 4 best players, you're likely not a very good team.

However, Bradley is still a very useful player and only 23 years old.

My biggest issue isn't even really his size. It's the fact he can't stay on the court.

News just keeps getting worse .

lol Exactly my thought

Sully is better than Monroe , Monroe isn't a true center.

Eh, I disagree.  Monroe is not a "pure" center, but I think he can be a Pau Gasol style center.  A classic rim protector is nice, but there are other ways to defend the basket.  The Celtics need talent and scoring punch.

I don't think there's a team in the league that would take Sully over Monroe.  Monroe is bigger and a better low post player and rebounder at 6'11 and 250.  Plus he shoots almost 50% from the field compared to Sully 43%.

How many true centers are there in the league now?  Not many in this NBA and Monroe has the size to play there....

- can't pass
- remarkably streaky shooter. Looks like Ray Allen on occasion and Ben Wallace on others.
- can't dribble
-can't finish at the rim, at all.
- defense is good, but quite overhyped at times.
- very undersized as a two guard
- ankles and shoulders. Enough said.
- more or less one dimensional.

With all those cons, he'll probably pick up a 7M/Y deal because it's the NBA and that's what owners and awful GM's do.

I like that the Cs are going to let market dictate value. Unless a player is a star or fills a tough to fit niche (rim protectors) there is little reason to jump out and extend players.

I disagree to an extent. GM's and owners overpay. We did the right thing extending rondo early for example. Perkins, too the first time.

shortly after - Rondo has this to say

Quote
“I know that would be a big reason why you wouldn’t want to leave a city like Boston,” said Rondo, “because every night, even with the season we’re having, we’re probably still leading the league in attendance or at least up near the top. “I mean, the fans in Boston, they know the game. You can’t cheat the fans. They know the game. It’s fun to play there. It’s definitely something you appreciate even more once you go on the road and see other teams that have like 6,000 people in the stands. Every night, it’s 18,000 in Boston. “So you don’t take that for granted,” Rondo said. “I know I don’t. I’ve been in the league for eight years, and in Boston the crowd is consistent. They’re always there.”

Bradley would be great next to a big point guard like Dante Exum

Said Boston didn't re-up him last year because they feel better letting his market determine his value and not overpaying him - kind of like how Houston does it, as they refuse to give early extensions.

Does this put the end of the the "Celtics offered 7 million a year" rumor?

Can we remove this as the the starting point of possible contract numbers now?

Bradley's criminally undervalued on this forum...

He's 23, is an elite defender as evidenced by his 2nd Team All Defense selection despite missing 20-30 games, has improved his scoring average every year, and is shooting 40% from 3 and 80% from FT. The league average from 3 is 37%, Avery has 2 years averaging above 40%.

It took Goran Dragic and Mike Conley 6 seasons to average what Bradley is in his 4th. He'll never be the distributor they are, but he's one of the best defenders at the deepest position in the NBA and he has shown glimpses of the promising caliber of player he can be. Few players can defend at an elite level, come off curls to knock down a mid-range, shoot 40% from 3, and have the timing to cut and finish at the rim as consistently as he does.

Imam Shumpert is half the player Bradley is, but he had (and still has to a certain extent) a legion of vociferous Knicks fans touting his value, talent, and potential and Avery's younger than him.

The opinion on this forum about Avery are disappointing and shortsighted. Most think he's not worth even a $6M per contract, but he's going to prove a good number of you wrong, whether it's in or out of Boston.

My main concern is his durability, other than that I would love to have Bradley back.

He's not nearly as skilled as either.

Also, I'd say SG is a somewhat weak position.  Not that many stars at the position anymore.  Lots and lots of decent to slightly above average players.

Which is kind of the problem for Avery -- he's a nice enough player, but there's not much that he does that is terribly hard to replace.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Avery is likable. Everyone likes him.

The facts are his ball handling is sub par (putting it nicely), he's small for the 2 and he's missed roughly 40% of his NBA games due to injury. Even if you look past his rookie year (double ankle surgery), he still only averages 57 games a year the past three years. That's 25 games missed each year on average.

He could very well go on a 5 year run playing 90% of his games but missing that much signals a problem .. .. and that should factor into his next deal, no question. If I were Danny, I'd try to convince him to take a low deal so he can prove it and earn a bigger long term deal next summer.

Of course, this is the NBA so he'll probably get $30 million over 4 years regardless.
