Tier 1:

1. Embiid
2. Wiggins
3. Exum

Tier 2

4. Smart
5. Parker
6. Saric
7. Vonleh
8. Gordon
9. Randle

I think the top-tier is close enough in talent that I would prefer to trade down from 1 to 3 (either while grabbing a player, pick, or moving up from 17) if the Celtics got the top overall pick. I also think that Embiid has a greater bust potential than Exum, in spite of Exum's limited performances against elite opposition.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Danny's preferences in my opinion:

1)Embid (if his back checks out- this isn't Sully with the 17th pick, it's a lottery/franchise changing event) If his back doesn't check out 100% then he's off the cards.
2) Jabari
3)Wiggins
4) Exum or Vonleh
5)Vonleh or Exum
6) Marcus Smart

Everyone else is meh.

Pick 17:

Joseph Nurkic
Kyle Anderson
Glen Robinson 3
Tj Warren
PJ Hairston

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

I'd be absolutely shocked if Danny took Vonleh over Exum. Word is also that Danny is very, very high on Saric. Has scouted him personally two years in a row. I think the 17th depends on what they get in the lottery. I think the Celts are also taking hard looks at Lavine and Porzingis at #17.

I think he takes Exum before Vonleh 7 times out of 10, but if Exum is off the board then he takes Vonleh.

Vonleh's combine numbers were pretty impressive, I think he rivals Exum now and overtakes Smart.

Vonleh's combine numbers are extremely impressive, though Exum's are as well: 6'9.5" wingspan, etc. At this point, one has to think that Exum is still very close to the top of Danny's board. How he views 5-8 is anyone's guess, and it could come down to a combination of team need (which is something that only he truly understands moving forward), intangibles, personality, upside, measurables, etc. We share the opinion that Vonleh and Smart are ahead of Gordon and the rest at this point, but you never really know. Saric is the dark horse here. It's possible that Danny has him as high as 4 or as low as 10.

Yeah he loves Saric. To me, Saric is still more of a 'trade down' guy for our pick range like Gordon.
Saric is cut from a winners cloth though which Danny loves.
I have no idea where Nurkic is going. Some are saying top 10, I think draft express has him early 2nd round- but Danny likes him too.
Personally I hope if we don't land a top 6 pick that we trade the pick and pick up another mid first rounder to roll the dice on.
I'm super pumped for Tuesday night, so we can realistically narrow down our range. Hopefully somewhere in the top 4.
Exum and Vonleh both provide more comfort after those combine numbers- Exum is huge for a point guard haha. Vonleh has the proportions of a giraffe with gorilla mits and if coached correctly could be an Ibaka clone with more offensive game out of school.

Not getting the rise up the board of players who showed they were an inch taller or had a standing reach of wingspan an inch or two longer. Scouts and draftniks love that stuff. Decision making GMs really don't suddenly sour or grow more fond of a player because of such things. I think that is majorly overblown in the draftnik circles.

Kevin Love is really 6'8 even though he's listed at 6'9, while Fab Melo and Eddy Curry are truly specimens.

You could have all the potential in the world but never reach it. Every single draft pick has the potential to be a top 10 player, but only 10 out of the very many ever really do it.
