Jabari Parker has made housing arrangements at Duke for his sophomore year, a source from the school tells Tom Moore of Calkins Media. Moore notes that the arrangements don’t rule out a decision by Parker to enter the draft, but they do give credence to Parker’s insistence that staying in school another year is a real possibility.

Don't know if the source is legit, but Parker has always stated his preference of playing with his best friend in Jhalil Okafor. Parker in the past has also expressed his dire interest in possibly going abroad to do missions, and practice more studies in Ministry fellowship. So I guess... only time can tell?  :-[

Perhaps the deadline to secure campus housing comes before the deadline to declare for the NBA Draft?

Could well be:

Housing confirmation
On April 15, all students will receive their fall housing assignment from the housing assignments office. Students will be asked to review and confirm their assignment, or report any errors. Housing assignments are binding once selected; not confirming your assignment does not release you from your housing obligation.

I don't know to be honest, it seems like Parker has plenty of time to secure a campus housing. Plus hes also Jabari Parker... so I seriously doubt the school would have 'trouble,' finding him a spot at Duke...

Parker is at least third on my list.  But if the presence of Parker pushes someone else back to us in the draft, then I say he should declare.  My my sake.

I am sure that he would rather get that housing locked up just in case. Nice rooms go fast and the school isn't going to kick someone out of their room for him, no matter how big of a star he is.  Also, maybe he is just playing hardball with his agent.

Anyways, if he wants to play with Jahil so bad, he should go into the draft this year and get drafted by us, then go and do his mission next year.  We'll tank as a result and then we can draft Jahil in 2015.   ;D

If he has a spot reserved that's a good plan......either way......shows he needs to follow normal procedures till the point he makes up his mind.

If he decides to leave school .....then no problem,  sure there would be somebody on a waiting list ready to take his room.

Doesn't hurt him or Duke to reserve this room.

I'd think that too, but, not knowing the byzantine intricacies of NCAA guidelines for student-athletes and what might constitute "improper gifts," I wonder if miraculously finding a star sophomore a sweet dorm on-campus well after the deadline for housing assignments had passed might cause some kerfuffle.

Yeah...Jabari is staying in school...Writing is on the wall.

This is probably a non-story.

For those who have been in college recently, it's not a surprise.  Housing selection for the fall semester does indeed happen around this time, at all schools.  Because Jabari hasn't ruled out being at Duke next year (since he has yet to declare), it makes sense that he would go through the housing process like everybody else.

Jabari is probably also going through course selection for next semester, too.

it would still totally suck though if we land the 4th pick and he's not in the draft

I'd say it would suck more if we landed the 3rd pick and Jabari isn't in the draft.  If we end up at 4, we fall outside of the "holy trinity" of players with superstar potential anyhow.  But if Jabari is in, then a top 3 pick guarantees you the opportunity to draft one of those guys.

I still think he declares... though I do hope he learns to play some defense in the NBA if we draft him

While it may be a non-story, you guys seem to think major college athletes are like regular students.

When you're a major basketball or football NCAA program you have your own dorm just for players.  The players get into any class they want (even full classes always have a few extra spots reserved just for situations like this).  You don't have to worry about getting your forms in on time (or at all probably).

Now this is Kentucky, not Duke, but check out Kentucky's basketball dorm:

I imagine Duke's setup is something similar.

There's no competition or worries about losing your spot in these dorms.  How ever many roster spots they have, they have that many rooms reserved for their athletes.

It's nothing like it is for regular students.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class
