I remember Rondo trying the same stunt before but getting pushed out by Lebron. Yesterday Gortat was actually part of it, arms over two celts and everything. Lol

I guess this is anothet way to help the tank

"I got to do my scouting," said Gortat. "Rajon Rondo was kind enough to let me in. For a second I felt like a Celtic, you know what I'm saying? I made my dream come true, too.. I can check that from my list."

He is a FA next season. I rather have him then humphries or bass. Gives the team a legit starting center. I wonder how much he will ask and for how long

We'd probably have to pay a premium.

You can make a case that he is one of the factors for the Wizards' playoff appearance. He's not overly great, but he does do a very solid job of holding the forth defensively.

That's an interesting quote from Gortat.  He was obviously trying to be humorous, but I do think there's some truth to what he's saying with the "dream come true" line.

For all those who say that no good NBA player would ever want to play for the Celtics if they could play in New York, Miami, or LA instead, there is still an aura, a legacy, and a tradition as one of the greatest franchises in the game associated with the Boston Celtics.

As Marcin's quote indicates, the players are aware of that legacy.  Being The Celtics, having that brand and that recognition, is going to help as Danny attempts to rebuild this proud franchise.

If this were reversed and Gortat were on our team, Celticsblog would be all like:

Agreed. Getting Gortat would be great! I've always liked him as a player and I've wanted to see the Celts go after him for the last couple years.

A legit center would completely change our defense for the better.  Gortat is that type of guy.  Sure, a superstar would be great, but Gortat or similar C anchoring the defense and a full healthy season of Rondo setting the table on offense and we're in the playoffs next year.

He would be on my list for the TPE this summer for sure.

Definitely true. It gives us a leg up on about 2/3rds of the franchises in the NBA, and puts on roughly equal maybe slightly lesser footing with the LA teams and the New York teams -- probably a step ahead of chicago. Miami's a premiere location because their team is awesome, not for 'basketball reasons'

And while Gortat would be great, I'd prefer Okafor if he comes back at full health.

I'm going to give you a TP simply because it's refreshing to see someone posting about wanting a center other than Larry Sanders.  I think Gortat is a pretty good center and I think he would look even better on a very good team.  Imagine him on the Spurs instead of Splitter.

If this has a bit of foreshadowing to it I would not be opposed to adding him as long as the price tag wasn't ridiculous.

Love Gortat, have wanted him on the Cs the last couple years. He's not a superstar but he's solid defensively and an offensive threat on the pick and roll. Very mobile and a good shot blocker and rebounder.

Unless Boston gets a good center in the draft—and there are few available—I'm all for going after the Hammer, even if he'd be a bit pricey. He's had a healthy, productive career and would be a game-changer for this team.

Gortat will be turning 31 next year. He's probably not going to be worth much more than the non-taxpayer midlevel, but unless we strike gold in the draft, he's probably not worth the investment for us.

edit: Actually, looking of his recent body of work, he may be worth close to what he's making right now ($8 million). My point still stands, though.
