I don't understand people's love for WCS, he is a terrible basketball player....I would be extremely disappointed if the C's drafted him.  I guess fans didn't learn their lesson from Fab Melo....

Yes Melo was a wasted 1st round pick but does that mean the Cs should never draft a project big man? This limits their ability to get bigs to very early 1st rd pick, free agency where they get paid at a premium, and by trading for them also at a premium. The risk associated with drafting project bigs is worth the reward. After Darko was a bust should teams stop looking at Euro prospects?

As for WCS, he has the length, size and mobility to be an ELITE defender in the NBA. His offense is poor and his college numbers aren't great. Im not advocating drafting him with the Cs 1st pick but with the 2nd 1st rounder he has a lot of potential and is worth the gamble. I think his mobility is significantly better then Melo's. Remember melo sat in the middle of a zone at Syracus, WCS has shown to be a very good pick and role defender. His ability to switch and stay with smaller players is particularly intriguing to me.

Since Exum is only 18, should the Celtics end up drafting him, I wouldn't be surprised if Ainge re-signed Bradley with the intention of having Exum come off the bench for his first season or two.

Except for the fact that Bradley will inevitably break in half during training camp.

I haven't once thought of a scenario where drafting Exum means we are "striking gold" but rather "missing out" on one of the top five picks.

 For me Parker would be striking gold more like platinum. It's fairly clear we won't get him. I would take Exum second in this draft. I just like him I think he will be great. So Parker, Wiggins, Exum are all gold for me.  I'll take all three over Embid.

 In short Exum would be lucky and would be Golden.

Thats a common, yet unfair expectation for Doug McDermott. Doesn't he remind anyone of Wally Szcerbiack?  And would anyone be upset if you got a player of Wally's caliber with our late first round pick?

Exum would be a potentially good take with the lotto pick, but I'm keeping hope out for #4 or better. Seems like he's projected around 5-7.

For those posters who think the Cs can do better at the 4th pick then Exum who do they consider a better prospect? The consensuses right now seems to be that 1-3 is Embiid, Wiggins and Parker in no particulare order. Exum is consistently the 4th guy and I have read that some scouts have him as the #1 this year. I would say those four are Tier 1 in this draft with Randle, Smart and Gordon making up the tier 2.

I like the idea of playing Exum at the 2. A lot of tall ball handling guards who can pass fancy themselves point guards. Then they get to the NBA and they fit more naturally as shooting guards, or even small forwards.

Exum is also very young. He will need time to learn. I can see him playing as a combo guard off the bench to begin his career.

The Celtics are desperate for another creator on this team. Most great teams have 2 or 3 creators who pull the defense away from an open teammate.

The selection of Exum scares the heck out of me though. He is such an unknown. Could be an awesome pick. Could be a massive mistake. At this point is anyone really that sure he is better than Randle, Smart, Vonleh, Ennis, Gordon or some of the others listed after the top 3? Has anyone here really seen enough of him to have any certainty about his game?

I think I pretty much came to the conclusion a while ago that after the top 3 to about maybe #11 or #12, the potential draftees are all about the same in terms of risk and potential.  There are a few I like more than others, and a few I like less than others.  I have my suspicions about a few of them, and how they'll fare in the NBA, but you never really know for sure.

Exum is squarely in that group.  There's no guarantee he's any better than any of the rookies from this season, particularly the guards.  Oladipo, MCW & Burke I think are the 3 best rookies this year, or at least the ones showing the most 1st year potential. Exum would do well to be on their level after his rookie year.

While Szcerbiack might have been a little better rounded in college the numbers are eerily similar. Added Korver because that is the most common comparison I've heard. Yours is better imo

I would be.

Then you didn't watch him in Minnesota. Getting that level of production in the mid-to-late is a steal. Wally was #6 overall in 1999 btw.

Exum played against everyone in the Nike Hoops summit and looked like the best player there, on a team with Wiggins and against the best US players in his age group.  He has legit size and even though the scouting on him is limited, he has never looked bad once in any of the opportunities people have had to see him.  The only real knock on him is that he didn't play in the NCAA (or the D-League, Italy, France, Spain, Argentina or the Adriatic League) so we could get a better look at him against top competition.

Anyways, while the players between 5-11 may all look about the same to us, we have a hall of famer player/executive with a great track record drafting for us.  I'd much rather Danny pick BPA from his perspective instead of taking the scraps at the end and just hoping all the other GMs are terrible, which is essentially what people are resigning themselves to.

I like Exum a lot. If we pick 4th I'm not sure if I like him more than Smart but most scouts do so I guess I lean that way.

I think Exum is a lock to be a very good pro. I'm not sure he's an all-star and I don't necessarily think he's a franchise level talent but he's going to be good. I think he's a safer pick than Gordon or Vonleh for sure. Randle is a safe pick, you know what you're getting from him. Smart is a wildcard. Could be Westbrook, could be Ray Felton. Exum is probably the pick I make at #4.
