So who would you guys be looking at if we ended up with 9th and 20th picks. With the 9th I would be looking at smart, Vonleh, Randel, Harris, Gordon and I've recently seen nurkic starting to rise maybe a trade back to like 14 and grab him, I'm still not sure on his value yet. At 20 I would be looking at Anderson, Lavine, stauskas, grant, walker.

Id be happy with smart and nurkic. Who would you guys like at 9th and 20th?
"Maybe there is hope for us afterall

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Seems like a pretty pessimistic view on where we will land, but I would be happy with Smart, Vonleh, or Warren at 9 (I don't think Gordon or Randle slide that far) and would be pretty psyched with WCS at 20. Of course I hope our positioning ends up better than what you have proposed.

Based on this Mock

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2014/

#9  McDermott

#20 torn between Payne, Harrell, Lavine, and J Young. Payne and Harrell can play know Lavine and Young have alot of potential. None fill a need so I go with ceiling and draft Lavine
Mavs
Wiz
Hornet

If we land at #9 it means we've gone at least 6-5, and Cleveland goes winless for the rest of the year (or we've at least caught the Pistons, and another team who picks 9 or worse gets VERY lucky in the lottery. Neither of those are likely).  We're not picking at #9.  Likely no worse than #7, and probably better than that.  There's not enough time to make up much ground, especially with Rondo sitting 3 more games.

If we land at #20, the Nets will have somehow passed Chicago and Toronto, two teams that they trail by 2.5 with 11 games to go.  Not impossible, but pretty unlikely that they pass even one, much less both (although since our next 3 games are against Toronto and Chicago, this scenario at least jibes well with the scenario in which we win a lot of games an pick 9th).  They're more likely to give us pick #17 than #20, honestly.

at 9 Randle is long gone. I think Smart, Gordon and Vonleh are gone too. I would look at Ennis, Hood, and Harris at 9. And to be honest it is a tought pick between the 3. I like Ennis the most as a prospect there, but i dont like the idea of downgrading from Rondo to Ennis.

If Harris is actually 6-5 in the combine i would grab him at 9.

At 20 i too think the pool will be made of some combo of Anderson, Stauskas, Lavine, and maybe Payne. Maybe Nurkic falls due to being slow. I am hoping someone in the top 15 or so slides to the Celtics at 18.

But at 20, if the C's already grabbed Harris, I would select Anderson.

Virtually impossible to have the 9th and 20th picks.  We're projected as being tied for the 5th pick and getting the 18th pick by ESPN's playoff odds calculation and we're closer to the next lower pick in both cases than the next higher one.

I'd be happy with the itches:

Saric and Nurkic
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Not a chance Vonleh, Smart, or Randle are available at 9.  (EDIT:  I could be wrong here.  1 of those 3 could possibly slip to 9.)

Not a chance Anderson is available at 20.

Well I was going with the more pessimistic view since everyone says luck never goes our way I was thinking worst case scenario pick wise. And I know not all of them are going to be available but some sort of small combination of players I said could be there at the picks proposed.

I think a pessimist take is totally valid. Right now the odds are we land at 6 and 18. And considering how much attention we have given the possible #1 pick, why not discuss a worse case scenario.

If Anderson is gone i probably select Stauskas. I feel pretty good about the top 20-25 prospects. Either a nice wing should be there, or one of the project centers will be available.

So far i think the project bigs are closer to a deAndre Jordan instead of a Fab Melo... Or... Acie Earl.

It's depressing .....nothing good of winning any of these last games......Lakers are tanking so hard ......Mitch doesn't care.

The battle now is for draft positioning .

We are being out tanked ."......letting others grab the players ......to let the Lakers do this is the worst feeling in the world

Danny and Brad ........stop this madness already ....sit Rondo and Green

I'm just not seeing ...helping the Lakers rebuild with lottery players while we win pointless games.

The logic makes me sick.

I say we end up picking 4 and 17. Realistic not pessimistic.  Take one of the PGs Exum or Smart, and trade Rondo for Monroe.

Exum
Bradley
Green
Sully
Monroe
