specifically in the Raptors game.  does anyone know why Stevens inserted him for "one minute" and then he was gone for the night???  did he do something that bad in that short of time that Stevens yanked him or what??? just seemed very strange and none of the announcers even said a word about it!!!

If Stevens didn't have to pull Green out of the game and sub Babb into the game for him, Babb probably would have been a DNP that night. So, I view his one minute of playing time as him getting lucky to play, and not some sort of punishment. That said, I don’t think he guarded Derozen very well when he was out there, but not a lot of people do these days.  Anyway, I thought his limited playing time had more to do with Green being able to come back into the game than Babb doing something "wrong." Also, C. Johnson was playing a lot at the 3 in the second half IIRC, and he was playing well. He earned those minutes, so there wasn't much of a reason to put Babb in there at that time.  That is my impression for what it is worth.
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

Now I'm a little bit more confused and I'm trying to remember the exact circumstances and time when Babb was put in. all I remember was the camera on Babb as he entered the game and then what seemed like a few seconds later he was going back to the bench.
So what was the reason Babb was replacing Green and who changed their mind???

The sequence was, mid-late in the 1st period, Stevens called Green to the bench, inserting Babb.  This was much earlier than Green's normal rest rotation.   Stevens had Green sit next to him and was talking with him about something very specific.   He then put Green back in.  Green immediately attacked the rim on his first two offensive plays, successfully.

So it seems that Stevens put Babb in solely for the purpose of getting a chance to coach Green up about something.  It seemed to work.

Later, when Green was out for more 'normal' rest, CJ played pretty well.   Green only played a little bit more from that point, sitting most of the game.  Stevens indicated that Green had had a sore/stiff neck in practice the day before, barely able to move it:

Quote
“Jeff had a stiff neck and I thought he looked really uncomfortable out there. Otherwise I would have gone back with him,” Stevens said after limiting Green to 20 minutes during a 99-90 loss to Toronto. “Yesterday he could hardly move it; today he didn’t look much better. Hopefully by the time we play (the Raptors) again Friday, he feels better.”

Given how thin our roster is at the 3 spot, Green has played through a lot of aches and pains, but at this point in the season, I don't think there is much point to making him do so.   Good to give kids like CJ a chance to get some decent run.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

I think what Stevens was trying to say is that Jeff Green is a stiff.

Does this really matter?

Chris Babb has no future here. He has a very limited chance of ever making another NBA team. He's this year's DJ White or Sean Williams. He's the guy that will get spot minutes the rest of this year who will probably get a non-guaranteed contract for next year and be cut sometime before the season starts or be traded using that non-guaranteed contract as salary filler that the other team can cut and use as salary relief.

Now that's another thing that's confusing. wasn't Babb already signed the same as CJ???
I'm sure I heard that at the end of his second 10 day contract. this is why I didn't understand why he wasn't getting more time.

Yes he was. You're correct.

If it gives us more ping pong balls (which it would), we should be playing him.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
This thread reminds me of the show, "Super Fun Night." In this case, I am asking what happened to the show because I am a huge fan, but nobody else really cares...unfortunately, both of them will be canceled at season's end.

You could be correct because I think Danny, with the exception of a few,  will go "all in" if he finds the right "big".
would love to have someone like this Jonas Valanciunas!!!

Babb should be on the floor with Johnson, Pressey , Bass and Joel Anthony

This should be our starting line up from here on out ..till season ends

With Hump , KO and Bayless playing 15 minutes each

Rondo and Sully .....need rest

There......let Stevens vacation ....and I'll tank the team ....
