According to Rockets GM Daryl Morey, the time that NBA fans spend theorizing player signings and trade scenarios isn’t completely wasted.

In a tweet asking if GM's check message boards for ideas, Morey simply responded, "we do."

Quote:
We do RT @jamesasteven: @dmorey Do nba GMs (to your knowledge) ever gain trade/transaction ideas from online message boards/fans?

Fun fact: Ainge has a screen name here.

It's Triboy16f, and we're drafting Aaron Gordon  :P

Danny has been pretty consistent in the media that he doesn't read blogs.

Not everyone in the Celtics front office shares that point of view.

I bet guys like Mike Zarren and Ryan McDonough read the blogs.  Danny Ainge not so much.  I doubt current or former players are all that interested in hearing what fans have to say about their job performance.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Danny doesn't,  but you can guarantee he's got guys with this site and others on their bookmarks.  It would be silly not to considering how many reasonable ideas are floated amongst the trawl of sewage.

Bill Simmons has a habit of announcing trade ideas for the Celtics around deadline/ draft night and they are identical to posts here and realgm.   Quite uncanny they are on the radio the day after .

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

It would be stupid if people in the organization didnt do this on some level.

They have thousands of people to source creative ideas from rather than whatever handful actually are hired

Kind of assuming but these types of blogs must have helped push the advanced stats idea breaking down all sorts of relevant information.

Every time I see someone question Ainge's competence, most recently the sentiment that he "isn't tanking hard enough and doesn't know what he's doing", I go back to this article:

http://www.sbnation.com/longform/2013/3/27/4149404/botson-celtics-gm-ryan-mcdonough-profile
Quote
"Let’s be honest," says Procopio, "out of 30 GMs in the league, probably 22 of them aren’t going to go to guys who are a step up from interns. That’s what we were -- low-level guys -- and ask them what they think about players. That’s OK. That’s how you run your ship. You’ve got your scouts, you’ve got your assistant general managers. You don’t need a million opinions in the room. Danny was different."

Ainge is different. Described as a maverick even by those who work for him, Ainge has little use for titles or hierarchy. What he’s after is information and he doesn’t care where it comes from.

"The best thing that happened to my career is working with Danny because he’s so open," says McDonough. "He’ll go to interns and say, ‘So what do you think?’"

Nobody's perfect, but Ainge sure as hell strives to be. As far as basketball and GM'ing acumen goes, I'd trust Ainge before the armchair GMs.

Also, James Dolan probably gets his scoop exclusively from degenerate sports forums.

I ask you, what's the fastest way to get the latest breaking information on the NBA?  Probably NBA Newswire, but I can tell you that some blogs and Twitter can be faster even if they are only at rumor stage. I would not doubt that GM's follow sports talk forums, but not for ideas, just information.

I believe many people in every NBA office looks at sports blogs just like many people in government look at polls and just like many people in Hollywood look at ratings. It would be stupid not to.

Surprised Rondo wasn't traded at the deadline then
