Agreed PhoSita, I actually like Hump, Bass and Bayless quite a bit as complimentary veteran players.

My ideal world right now:

1. Play the young guys all the minutes

2. Young guys gain maximum game time experience heading into summer league

3. This also conveniently results in us having the "best shot" percentage wise toland a top three pick

4. That hoped for top three picks either becomes a centerpiece of our future or is used to land a #1, #2 chip for our future.

I'd be very happy with the following scenario -

Asik / Humphries / Faverani
Sully / Olynyk / Bass
Green / Vet player / 17th pick?
Bradley / Top three pick? / Johnson OR Babb
Rondo / Bayless / Pressey

Maybe top three pick is at SF, 17th pick at the two spot, PG or Center spot, depending on play chosen with the top three pick? Not sure how wee get Asik, but would like to try...

I mean, you can mix and match scenarios - but agree in having some combination of Hump, Bass and Bayless here as role players - would be very good provided the right "big chip players" are in front of them.

LooseCannon:

Understand the sentiment - I'm a feet to the fire guy as far as young players. I think the best way to develop is to get your backside handed to you every day by players better than you. If the players don't have the mental fortitude to maintain their confidence during that process the NBA may not be the right league for them. I understand the opposing opinion to that - but that's where I'm at with it.

One of the reasons I don't want to just hand playing time to young players is to avoid cultivating a sense of entitlement.  At the same time, you don't want them to become too resentful, so you need options if you need to sit a rookie on the bench to teach him something.

I might even say that it is more important to develop Brad Stevens as a coach than it is to develop young players (or, at least, young players projected as possible role players who are quite replaceable).  Having some solid veterans who have the experience and ability to do what he wants may help him develop his systems faster and adjust to the differences between college and the NBA.

That's a really interesting point I hadn't considered.

It just doesn;t seem like these are big issues with this group of young players and with only 9 games left.  Play the starters for a quarter and then let the youth/Anthony play out the final 36 minutes in order to give them NBA experience.

And bring back Keith Bogans offering him as many minutes as he wants.

Sounds like Joel Anthony is the guy Brad's thinking of sticking into the starting lineup.

Not sure Philly can even beat us with Babb, Anthony, Pressey playing a ton of minutes.

The Philly mgmt did too good of job stripping away the talent , what there was from the lineup.

We really need to lose this game or fall in the draft to the Jazz.....another team that traded off their decent players ..... :P

We really need the forth pick.   I think we should lose ALL the remaining games to go for this draft position.

And yeah ...how about putting Bogans worthless corpse out there and make him earn a tanking paycheck...... Why is he on the team....he should have to do something to earn his money ....is is mentally unhealthy or a nut case or something?

Why? Even  if they lose all of their games the most they can go is the fourth spot (or the third if the Celtics are really lucky) by then there's still no guarantees that they will remain at the fourth spot.

its called increasing your odds. one spot CAN make all the difference in a player you really need.

Or you can slip and the player you need is out of reach.

I'd rather put myself in the "best possible position" to have the highest possible chance of landing the best possible player.

Use the games to develop the young guys - from a team growth standpoint, they need development minutes much more than the vets need playing time right now.

Olynyk
Sullinger
Babb
Johnson
Pressey

only play vets in spots - as needed.

If we ended up with the 3rd or 4th pick we very well might slip to the 6th or 7th spot. But we would also have significantly better odds of landing the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 5th picks and I
'd rather head into the draft with those increased odds.

I would start Kelly and not worry about anything else rookie wise. Let's continue to get him looks and get him integrated and more seasoned.

People have been calling for this team to play rookies and lose while developing youth since the trade deadline. It hasn't happened yet. What makes anyone think its going to happen now? Clearly this team feels developing rookies doesn't happen by just handing young players playing time.

Maybe we play Olynyk as a point guard and see how many post ups he can feed Phil Pressey in the post?  :-P. In all seriousness this has been a really tough season to be a Cs fan, a good draft pick, from whatever position would really ease the pain.
