I like the chances of the Celts finding a center this off-season. The reason is that every team with a shot at a top 4 pick except the Lakers are set at that position. But Embiid seems too good for even teams with centers to pass on him. If the Celts can't draft Embiid, one of these may be available: Sanders (or Henson), Kantner (or Gobert), Vucevic, Cousins and Noel.

no way we are getting Cousins, I want Cousins, but no way...even if the Kings will part ways with him, I don't think we have the packages to get it done. Sully + Green + Bradley + 2015 1st pick and 2016 1st pick?

Noel is not a center by any stretch of imagination. Also, I've got no idea why he would be available before he's even played a game in the NBA.

No way we get Cousins. He is about as untouchable as you can get. I don't see why 76ers would trade Noel when he hasn't touched the court and they are in a complete rebuild mode with him at the head of the rebuild along with Carter-Williams. Kanter and Vucevic are both kind of in the same situation as far as a center piece of a rebuild. Sanders might be the only attainable piece but with the way he has played and acted after netting his new contract I don't see many teams, Celtics included, really making an offer for him.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I definitely agree that we will be acquiring a center this offseason, but it's not necessarily likely from those teams (although I would be interested in finding a way to get Noel and obviously Cousins). This year was a throwaway year. Danny got to see what pieces he wants to keep and what he doesn't mind losing while also netting us a very decent draft pick. Next year we should have a much more balanced line up.

Only names you mentioned that are even remotely possible for the Celtics to acquire are Henson, Sanders, and Gobert.

You don't see Utah or Orlando taking Embiid and giving Vucevic/Kantner for the Nets/Hawks pick and a future #1? This supposes they can't get Parker, Wiggins or in Orlando's case Exuum as well.

I think there's a good chance Sanders and / or Asik will be available this summer.  They are decent role players, but both are probably too expensive for their current teams for different reasons.

I'm not sure if it would make sense to give up to much in order to acquire either this summer, but it would immediately improve the interior defense quite a bit to slot one of them into the starting lineup.

I would only acquire Asik if we were able to land a significantly upgraded roster to support the logic of adding him to our center slot.

Say we make a deal of a sign a traded Bradley, first rounder this year and a future first for Aaron Afllalo

Chicago amnesties Boozer in which we sign him to a 1 millionish a year for a couple years deal.

Then we could make a deal for Asik... Say Asik for Bass, a contract filler and 2 future firsts.

After these deals we still have one mid round pick this summer plus 5 more over the next 5 years. With a lineup like this.

Rondo
Afflalo
Green
Sully
Asik

and a bench of

Boozer
Wallace
Olynk
Mid Round first
Free Agent Guard (MLE Thabo?)

Does

Rondo/?
Aflallo/Thabo
Green/Wallace
Sully/Boozer
Asik/Olynk

Plus our mid first round pick, Faverani, and a vet min FA signing have any chance of contention in the East?  Maybe for 4th place but I don't think we get much further.

Chicago's almost certainly going to amnesty booze this summer

Right. Which is why I proposed this scenario.

Right, but I'm not sure we'd be able to sign Boozer for that little once he hits the amnesty waivers.

I know Ainge has got, like, a gagillion 1st round picks at this point but TWO #1s and Bradley for Aaron freakin' Aflalo?

Why not?

Afflalo is straight outta Compton!

Then we can sign Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.
