Steve Nash finally comes out with honesty

Steve Nash may think he has something left in the tank, and maybe he does. But at over 8 million, and the fact the Lakers offered a 1st pick for him is enough for me to smile at the Lakers downfall.

Also this new lay out is going to take me some getting used to.... My eyes are hurting from all the white, usually why I always choose the Black/Green jerseys on NBA 2K14.

Just another thought I wanted to bring up.

Kobe Bryant/Nash are being paid a ton of money, no doubt about that at all. The Lakers have a chance to win the NBA lottery, but only then would that be a silver lining to a miserable 2013-2014 season. Can you imagine if Howard stayed? They would probably have 10-25 more wins, but be fighting to stay in the playoffs.

I assume most people don't retire because they still want to be paid. I'm not sure how that truth is just now coming out.

Its from his Grantland film/documentary series, I haven't seen the video myself just read about it here and I'm at work.

Its in his Grantland video that he doesn't want to retire. He hasn't gone out and said he wants the money, I did quote what an ESPN analyst said that isn't actually accurate. Plus his article just got removed a minute ago on ESPN, but this is what he said in his video.

He wants to keep playing.

He also asked his agent what the stretch provision was. I was a little surprised to see that Nash never knew what that is, but then again how could he? Franchise player for the Suns at the time, and never would've expected to be waived.

So in other words... the entire premise of this thread is faulty.   He says he doesn't want to retire.  He only wants to play in LA, because that's where his family is.  That's it. 

The money thing is just opinion.

I don't know why anybody is surprised by los Nash's "honesty"....

He's been playing when he feels like playing ever since joining the Lakers....

Sort of like Jermaine O'Neal over the last 5 years.

How is this a story?  Of course he wants the money from his guaranteed contract.  He'd be foolish not to take the money.  There's nothing selfish or particularly honest about it, just obvious.

If a team is stupid enough to offer that much money to a 40 year old PG, said player would be an idiot to leave that money on the table. This is a non-story to me. If he was away from his kids and his playing was physically unbearable to him, sure, then him still playing might be a story (about greed), but I see no problems here. Signing Nash to that contract limited what the Lakers could do the past 2 years, and I still think relying on Kobe so much last year (vs. Nash, who was predictably injured) had something to do with his injury.

Does Nash have a no-trade clause?

If not, what pick/picks would the Lakers give up for someone to swallow his contract for next year so they can free up $$$.

Bogans for Nash + picks. They cut Bogans and have that cash freed up, or...

...Nash to us using our TPE.

What, if anything, is that worth to them?

It's pretty greedy if you haven't played or may never play for them but still take the money. It's LA soooo, thank you Nash! Take all their money and run!

Wow, i just watched the 3rd installment of his video series, and it was clear that the money is something he does not want to give up. Taken out of context it is a brutally honest statement.

But he also said his primary motivation to keep working and keep playing, is to prove to himself that he can still play at a high level.

Also in regards to the money, who would walk away from 10 million dollars? I dont care who you are, you want the money that is owed to you. Fans dont want to hear that, but it is the truth. 10 million dollars is a lot of money. Especially when this is the last time he can get it.

The athletes we admire are playing for the love of the game, yes. But, make no mistake, they are also playing in the NBA so that they can be rich, very rich, and get lots and lots of money.

I actually Admire Nash for speaking honestly. Having said that, i am glad it is the Lakers turn to deal with a contract albatross that cant get onto the court.  ;)
