D'antoni is probably gone, but who's out there to replace him that's "big" enough for LA?  Can't see Jerry Sloan doing it and he's about the only name of that caliber out there.

Lionel Hollins, George Karl, Van Gundy, and the other Van Gundy are out there.

I think we should be rooting for Vinny del Negro to somehow end up as the Lakers coach.

Agreed.

Kobe has the guts to call out the Lakers? He himself tied them down with his big contract extension this year.

Without Kobe, I am learning to like ( ;D ) the hardnosed, fastbreak play of the All-Scrub Team of D'antoni.

I'm pretty sure that the Lakers have made much more money off of Kobe than Kobe's made off of the Lakers. He totally earned that contract extension, and they've still got enough cap space for 2015.
The less Kobe makes, the more the Lakers can sign.  Whether he earned it is irrelevant.  Duncan earned the right to make more $ than he signed for too.

Sure, but there's no real reason for Kobe to take less than they offered him.

And, again, it doesn't matter a whole lot for 2015, which is when the Lakers are planning on making serious free agent overtures.

Hollywood. All drama.

I highly doubt all their positions on this matter. They all want to tank because their cause for this season is all lost. They too want to get high in the draft.

Comments like these from Kobe make me wonder if he knows how the salary cap works.

I suppose if the lakers want to go into win now mode, they need to do the following:

1. Stretch Nash so that he is only a 3 million hit on the cap each of the next 3 years. Then you can sign a max player, and maybe 1 or 2 more well paid impact role players.

2. Trade the lottery pick for a win now player. I wonder if Kobe would even be patient with the learning curve needed by a Parker or Wiggins.

3. Fire D'Antoni to appease Kobe and Pau, enabling the team to have a shot at keeping Pau.

But even after these moves, are they going to have enough speed and depth to be better than 7th best in the west?

In all likelihood, Kobe's referring to the fact that Jeanie Buss didn't have control over the basketball ops until after they'd lost out on Dwight and Phil Jackson - two major faux passes that have left them in the lurch.

They're going to keep Nash on as an expiring for next season, though (assuming he doesn't retire, which doesn't look likely).
